The facts: 1. neither tail lamp lights 2. licence plate light works 3. front parking lights work 4. both tail lamp bulbs are fine (visual and continuity both check) 5. no power at the bulb socket on either tail lamp 6. tail lamp ground in both bulb sockets is fine 7. fuse under dash is not blown 8. All brake lights work fine. 9. All other lights working. HELP!
Replace or continuity check the fuse again, plus make sure that the fuse you are looking at is the right one.
This is a conundrum. The license plate lamps get power from a branch of the taillight circuit. So the fuse+body computer is not the problem. There isn't much wire from that branch point to the driver's side taillight socket. So the problem has to be in the wiring harness behind the driver's side trim panel, the big 2' by 4' piece. That's where the ground point is as well, even though that apparently is not the problem.
Hi Check the 12v earth that sits below the hatch latch on the rear of the body.If you remove the spare wheel cover you will see it near the wiring harness below the latch. I have had a few cars that have chafed the earths and created problems with the tail lights.
I'm having the exact same problem as johnocooper on our 07' Gen II. @johnocooper ........... what did you do to rectify the situation? I'm trying to arm myself with as much good/pertinent info as possible before I start disassembling the interior panels and coachwork. Thanks All! Rob
You might be waiting a while, johnocooper was last seen on PC on Feb 1, 2019 Just use good wire tracing diagnostic techniques to find the (presumed) open in the circuit. Having access to the 2006 Prius Electrical Wiring Diagram might help.
Exactly which lights do or do not work when you turn on the headlight switch? Front or rear parking lights, dashboard illumination lights, license lights, glovebox light, etc. Do you have 12V at the 10A TAIL & 7.5A PANEL fuses when the parking lights are switched on?
