I went to a Lexus dealer to try out an RX bumper protector.

After the first RX (the RX300), RX bumper protectors are nearly 5 inches deep, which is deeper than the vee's rear bumper. So I didn't try one of those. The RX 300's bumper protector was just over 4 inches deep so I got one and made a dry run. It didn't fit due to it having more of a curve than the vee's bumper. If I lined up the corners (where it rolls over the edge of the bumper), the center stuck out about 1/2 inch past the vee's bumper. I'll try to buy an RX300 bumper protector on eBay and do a little trimming in the center to see if I can make it fit. If I do, I'll post pictures.

I found an aftermarket bumper protector that looks pretty good. Here's the link: 2012 Toyota Prius V OE Style Bumper Cover Protector | Sportwing.com | After-Market Auto Accessories

I won't buy it for our vee, though. It doesn't roll over the edge of the bumper and I need that coverage for my use.

Does anyone know whether the 2nd or 3rd generation Prius bumper protector will fit the curve of the vee's bumper? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

    EDITED TO ADD:
I asked this question of Toyota of McDonough (GA) and got this response:

"Hi and thanks for checking us out! I tried this protector and the one for 2010-2012 Prius on the 2012 Prius V we have on the lot. Neither worked. The bumper is shaped just a little bit different. I called Southeast Toyota to see if one is available and they told me that there will be one out in mid - January. Based on your interest and others, you bet we will be sure to carry it once it is available! JOHN, toyotaofmcdonough"

Our Canadian Prius v Base came with a rear bumper protector from the factory.

Steve, thanks for the picture. That protector is exactly what I was hoping for (well, it would be cooler if it said "Lexus").

My husband accidentally but Nav on my stats part, but I don't have it. I only have the five package. Sorry for the confusion. We paid 500 over invoice and that was available for any model we wanted. I can't recall the exact price for what the five with nav would have been. Sorry. We also have no TAX here, so it was sweet. Ours was about 29K OTD. I can get more exact numbers if you interested...my husband is the money guy not me. I just get to drive it!!! :)

Bronwyn, thx for the reply. We usally put at least 150K on every new car we have bought in the past. Hope to do this with our 1st Prius. This priuschat is a great forum and what I have read it seems that Prius owners really like their cars.

    Hi Danny,

I was wondering ... if the Canadian Prius v Base model comes with a black rear bumper protector from the factory, why would Southeast Toyota have to manufacture one?

    [IMGLINK]http://priuschat.com/forums/attachments/prius-v-accessories-modifications/33919d1325425666-rear-bumper-protection-prius_v_bumper.jpg[/IMGLINK]

In any event, any update yet on when the protector from Southeast Toyota will be available?

Phone up a Canadian dealership, get a quote, have it shipped to your door. ;)

I've bought a few things (camera, motorcycle parts) from Canadian sellers. The extra shipping cost and hassle of dealing with customs and bonded warehouses has made it a much less appealing option.

Just a quick bump - has the SET version of the bumper protector been released yet?

Also - any border city Canadians want to make a few extra dollars???

What about this one from Juicedhybrid? It just came out as well and the coverage looks awesome! I can't decide which one to get...

The pictures are at different angles. Looking closely, the coverage appears identical to me. (As a general matter, these bumper protectors cover the flat part of the bumper before the bumper starts curving upwards.) With the same coverage, and for $11 less, I'm going with the one PriusChat Shop is selling.

That photo is of a 2010 Prius hatchback. He's listed a bunch of accessories for the 2012 Prius v that I know don't work on the v, so buyer beware.

As to why SET would make one even if Toyota Canada already makes one? I'm guessing it's because they can do it cheaper that way. I personally like the SET one better - none of those grooves to get dirt and crap stuck in.

BTW - I am gonna go with the one from here that I know will work with the cars. I thought the rear end on juiced hybrid looked different. All the stuff on this site looks great though. I am probably going to order a few things.

Thanks! We don't post anything in the PriusChat Shop that we haven't personally tested.
