I bought a roll of 12" x 60" 3M film on eBay.

I read that it's easier to peel the stickers off the 3M film than it is to peel it off the paint, which is why I put the 3M film on in the first place. So to make it a little harder to peel them off, I put another, larger square of 3M film OVER the sticker.

Face it. If anyone wants to steal your stickers they will. You can't stop them, you can only slow them down.

The bra sandwich was my solution.

 

I suspect the problem waan't really WHERE you put them, but the fact that you didn't have ANYthing front or rear, and had 2 not 4. Once he found that, he wrote you up including the misplaced side stickers.

 

How do you get the stickers? I live in WA state, do they have them here?

Does anyone want to volunteer removing his or her stickers to see if removal works (after a couple of months)? You can always get replacement stickers for a nominal fee of $8. As for your paint, that's another matter :lol:

 

If the cop had had no trouble seeing them, he wouldn't have pulled him over. I don't think the cop did anything wrong; if the placement of the stickers is such a concern then don't use them! If someone wants to enjoy free carpool lane access, they have to understand the stickers need to be noticeable from any angle and easy to look for at a glance; the cop can't be crawling over the car looking for where the stickers are.

You don't complain about your license plate, do you? That is required to be in a standard location as well, and it too is very noticeable and does not "match" the rest of the car.

 

I was rear ended a few weeks ago and now have a newly painted bumper. The body shop told me not to place any stickers on the bumper for at least 30 days until the new paint has had a chance to cure.

In the meantime, I have the two large stickers on the rear quarter windows and placed the small sticker on the rear glass under the spoiler using clear contact paper.

On the invoice of the repair bill, the body shop wrote down that I should not put any stickers on the bumper for at least 30 days.

I intend on putting the stickers in the right places after 30 days.

If using the carpool lane and I was pulled over for misplacement of the stickers, do you think the cop would let me off if I showed the repair invoice with the note?

There are two sections of the vehicle code in question to the Prius and other eligible hybrids and these stickers--5205.5, and 21655.9

5205.5, under Registration of Vehicles and Certificates of Title, (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d03/vc5205_5.htm) gives the DMV the right to issue the stickers basically, defines the cars eligible, the program terms, where the rule applies, etc. etc.

21655.9, under Rules of the Road, Driving/Overtaking/Passing, (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d11/vc21655_9.htm), basically says that you may not drive in the HOV/diamond lanes unless "the decal, label, or other identifier issued pursuant to Section 5205.5 ( )2 is properly displayed on the vehicle"

Now can someone please point to the vehicle code section which defines proper display?

Just for thought, it tells us that the registration month and year stickers must be on the REAR plate (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d03/vc5204.htm)....

most car stickers I've ever had to deal with can be removed with a heat gun. It just melts the adhesive and the thing peals off.

 

I saw a much more gutsier "legal experiment" this weekend. For the first time, I saw a Lexus Rh400 hybrid on the way home this weekend. It had an HOV sticker in the center of its bumper. My first thought was, "I wonder if they'll get away with the center placement". Then I thought, "wait, I didn't think it got a high enough mpg". And I checked the Clean Air list, and it is NOT eligible for the sticker.

Surely if they're caught, they're in for more than a ticket?

That's nothing. The other day I saw a Hummer with the HOV lane sticker on the rear bumper. Fortunately he wasn't driving in the carpool lane. I guess he just had it as a joke, because just below the sticker it said "yeah, right!".
