Has anyone seen this? When you have to fake performance graphs comparing the TDI to the Prius, it kind of makes you look bad. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xYZu1wy-lM"]VW Jetta TDI vs Toyota Prius Showdown - YouTube[/ame]
Hmmm, next time I need to fly down a street dodging rubber cones I'll see if I can borrow someone's Jetta.
LoL! That was about as germane as two FHoPol's poster's arguing which Party is the best You've got one professional TDI racer in a TDI and some guy named "Mike" in a Prius, probably for the first time. :glare: Just so we can get . . . 1.3 sec difference in the 1/4 mile. 1.5 MPH more in the slalom. and . . . .02g's (two hundred's of a g) on the skid pad? in order to justify paying .50 cents a gallon more (CA) at the pump for diesel? ound: I think they're both fine cars, the efficacy of the comparison? Not so fine. :nono: Oh yeah I forgot to mention the all important burn-out test. Got me there but then again I like the rubber on my tires not the road. Enjoy your trip to the tire store.
Can you imagine how well the Jetta would be if it where designed for FE. Do they feel that is important to a hyper-miler's? So child like. Hal
the volkswagen diesel needs uncontaminated fuel, there isn't any uncontaminated diesel in the US. also germany doesn't test their new cars. you do, after you buy it!!
Well, yes I can because I ran against some in the 21st Century Automotive Challenge a few years ago. Diesel Jettas get 60+mpg. You'll have to know how to drive a Gen 1 Insight or be as good as Wayne G. or Hobbit to get those numbers in a Prius. The Jetta also wins on the autocross track. The Jetta doesn't have the interior space of the Prius and the rear seat becomes uncomfortable on long rides. If you believe your Prius can best a Jetta then please enroll in this year's 21stCAC at State College PA. in May.
Volkswagen's est of MPG for Diesel Jetta is 42. Please reference the :14 mark in the video for the EPA estimate of MPG for the Jetta. If you think I'm going to pay .50 cents more a gallon for . . . 1.3 sec difference in the 1/4 mile. 1.5 MPH more in the slalom. and . . . .02g's (two hundred's of a g) on the skid pad? you'll have to be much more persuasive than less interior space uncomfortable back seat and not to mention less reliability I don't think most here are that concerned with the 21stCAC at State College PA. Can the Jetta take four adults and luggage for a week over the I5 Grapevine at 70mph with AC on full blast in 105F weather? Mine does it several times a year and it's 6 years old. Once again I think the Jetta is a fine car the comparison and sales pitch of the Diesel Jetta (not a slow car) vs. Prius? Not so fine, IMHO. I'll keep the extra .50 cent a gallon premium over gas and spend it on my Bass Boat and fishing equipment. p.s. Really 60 mpg? BTW: Has the Diesel Jetta consistently won any other race series other than the one created solely to promote it?
