2012 GMC Sierra Hybrid Review - Review | Hybrid Cars

    GMC's hybrid Sierra get's 23mpg and doesn't worry about it's surroundings;)

The RX get's 28mpg and is a bit bigger than a Prius.

Actually, per Compare Cars Side-by-Side, '12 RX450h 2WD is EPA rated 32 city/28 highway/30 combined (but on premium) since the OP is willing to blow $62K+ bucks on a GL450...

Last week we traded our '06 Highlander Hybrid 222 ICE HP 122 Electric HP, 0-60 7 seconds, all wheel drive(for an 11 #4 @ 0%), I 'd give up the 4mpg for the all wheel drive on this particular beast, safer in the long run, IMHO if you're insecure in traffic, sit higher, truck or SUV, getting another sedan is just same-same.

Charles - My daughter has been bullied at school recently and I have spent a fair bit of time talking to her about it. I explain that what she is going through is not fair and that she should not have to deal with it at only 11. However I also tell her that life is not fair and that what is happening while wrong is still happening and then we talk about how to cope with it.

It seems like your comment below sort of fits the same mold - you are 100% correct, but the reality of the situation does not line up with what it should be.

As to your question about whether to sell your Prius - do you really think that this would not happen if you are driving the same, just in a Civic, Corolla or even something like a 3-series? I'm all the way across the country but my guess is that the answer would be no - you will still get jerk drivers doing the same thing - perhaps not as many.

I think that you need to look at changing your driving habits - move all the way right or keep up with the cars in your lane - just like what my daughter is dealing with it is not right, but it is the way that it is.

Interesting thread. I have to agree with the people who felt that Charlesinoc would suffer bad drivers no matter what he was driving. I've driven a number of vehicles over the years and have never failed to encounter drivers whose licenses should be cut into tiny pieces and whose car keys should be tossed into the nearest deep body of water.

Last night, in fact, in my 2006 CR-V (no subcompact, it), I had a woman in an Accord sedan blow by me into the oncoming lane of traffic as I and she were coming up to a red light so she could make a right turn. She blew past the stoplight.

Then, a bit later in the same trip, as I got into the left lane of a two-lane road to make a left turn, doing the 30-mph speed limit, a guy in a BMW (with New Jersey plates, I soon found) came up on my rear end and started flashing his headlights. (What the heck is that going to make me do, by the way? You'd better be pairing those flashing headlights with red-and-blue circular lights spinning atop your roof if you're trying to get me to move out of my lane.) Turned out Mr. New Jersey was making the left turn, too, and as we both turned onto another two-lane road, I got into the right lane, and as he came up on my left, I glared at him and vice versa. New Jersey drivers are enough to make any man or woman want to commit homicide, believe me.

I keep it to five miles over the speed limit, even if I'm passing someone in the passing lane. My theory is, I'm already speeding, even at 60 mph in a 55, and if you don't like it, tough--pass me on the right. Oh, that lane's occupied? Tough again.

Good luck, Charlesinoc, with the GL450, but I doubt it's going to cut down on the aggressive driving you're seeing from others.

Los Angeles/SoCal drivers are friggin notorious for their driving and their aggression (while driving). So, what did you expect? Just because we've all passed our drivers test does not we are going to follow the rules. I don't know anyone who hasn't broken a law in some way.

As I learned how people were driving, I figured it was 1) Drive faster/keep up with the move 2) Move over 3) Get off the damn freeway and use the side streets. Of course, I'm one of those people who will either go fast/be with the ~flow~ or move over to slow down (because, in my mind, I freak out when I go over ~80mph on the 101.) I honestly don't think Prius are "targets" ... I've been behind slow (~65mph) SUVs, sedans, trucks, etc ... in the FAST lane. Yeah, that wasn't your case. I drive my car like any other car. I just happen to be inside a Prius.

idk, I feel like SoCal drivers are more rushed and always always on the hurry. And you happened to be in their way on the freeway. No matter what speed you're going, there's always someone who is going 5-10mph faster than you!

I ordered a GL450, it's actually SUV class. I actually ended with a 2012 GL550, as they were unable to make modifications on the vehicle I ordered. So it's a month wait. :( Congratulations on your new '11 @ 0% haha. The prius is really a super fun car, I especially love zipping down a mountain road. wooohooo!!!

My GL550 should get about 13 mpg! She's a lot sexier though. :D

Although we don't have freeways here, I have never felt unsafe when I drive in the US, no matter if I rented a Forte or an Edge. I don't understand the need to wrap yourself with excessive sheet metal to feel safe on the roads. That only works if if other people are driving smaller cars than you. So if everybody thought this way, we would all drive bigger cars, forcing the insecure to drive even bigger ones. I refuse to let other people decide how safe I feel or what car I need to drive. But then again, Canadians don't pack heat when they go out either.

I would probably say, on balance, this is no more safe than a Prius.

The Prius will be able to stop faster and turn faster, to get you out of trouble in the first place, than most SUVs.

In a crash an SUV isn't necessarily going to be any better. Here in Europe the Prius gets a full 5 star rating by NCAP; where many SUVs don't acheive this.

High driving position is useful, but give me a standard car for safety any day.

Seriously? This is Los Angeles. You've got the pretentious drivers of souped up rice rockets from your Honda's to mini baby Lexus. I can safely state, besides me all other drivers in Los Angeles are idiots.

That's why I live in New York. HAHAHAHA.

I've seen Prius whose owners drivers license should be run though a shredder!!!

Don't believe me? Look it up on the web.

They can give the G3 a ten star crash rating if they want to...but I'm betting that if given a choice of swapping paint out on the superslab, or playing crash test dummy with a large inanimate object with either an SUV or a G3.......most people with a three-digit IQ are going to pick the SUV.

Since most of them are unit body now...(except for the largest of the mastodons) you don't have to worry about the overblown claims of energy transfer through the frame, or any of the other George Noory type stuff.
    Just a higher roll-over rate.
If you're bolted in with a seatbelt, rollovers are highly survivable. If not...your genetic material needs to be removed from the pool anyway.
    ;)
