Hello Friends, 25days ago I have got the 2003 Prius car with 98600Miles on it, which runs so nice and no problem had a single owner and bought it from Dealership but no warranty! Today I have observed something very different warning signs flashed first time on its dashboard. It's like the moment I switch ON the ignition key, then I have seen these two warning lights at a time: ABS + BRAKE all of a sudden and after few seconds later lights were gone. I switched OFF the ignition and when I restarted the vehicle again I have seen signs with: Battery sign + CHECK engine + ABS + BRAKE and after few seconds again those warning signs were gone! I don't know today what was the difference otherthan it was pretty cold and raining all day.I can see temperatures fallen significantly around 32F to 34F! I thought that might reduced the battery's charge as I haven't driven the vehicle much this morning...not even a Mile! Again this evening I have observed the same warning signs flashed when I switch ON the ignition Key! I don't know what was the problem... is it due to cold weather? or something terribily wrong with vehicle? I am worried, please advice me. Thanks.
Are you sure this isn't the normal startup lighting test of all the warning lights? During this test, you should be more concerned about what doesn't light up, as this signals a failure of the warning indicator.
It sounds like they are just the warning light tests as Fuzzy1 has said. If the they stay on it'll be something to worry about, if you are still concerned, go back to your dealer and get advice.
Yeah, I did go to dealer and asked him why I am seeing those all warning signs during I switch ON the ignition? He said, it's normal and usually one should be worried only if any of those warning sign stays constant. Honestly, as I am first time driver with less than a month of experience...so, I was like worried...once I read the Driver Manual only to find out if ever any of those warning sign blinks you must take your car to dealer! That's how I got nervous friends! Seems, as per dealership guy's comments It's normal! Just curious, is that's how Prius flashes all the warning Icons whenever we switch ON the ignition?! Appreciated...thanks for your comments.
Most cars flash all their warning icons at startup. They should go off quickly, but they don't turn off at the same time, but only as each completes its initial diagnostic and status tests.
It is federal law for vehicles to flash all warning indicators on startup to show that they are actually connected and working. This prevents people from remove the check engine light and then people saying they never knew. If it doesn't flash on startup and is a required NHTSA/DOT icon, then there is a problem. What you're seeing is normal, you probably just never noticed it before.
Wooo...it's normal!!! I am relieved now...thank you so much, your experience highly respected and novice like me can learn a lot!
stick around and keep posting in the site you'll get so much information and advice. Everyone is very nice here and will never make you feel bad for not knowing something. Enjoy your Prius!
