I tagged this to another thread but just thought I'd throw out my initial impression then see how I feel in a month or two. As most agree, the Prius sound is lacking. I'm old now in my youth worked in a (real) record store. Our policy was if you bought 3 albums you would get a free pack of rolling paper but that's another story. Purchased a Kenwood KSC-SW10 which is a powered Subwoofer. Not being handy I did have it professionally installed $110 with unit under passenger seat and remote in lower glove box with enough cord to use easily. My initial impression was WOW, after a day or two my feeling is this is how the Prius "should" have sounded to begin with. This is not a unit that rocks the world, seems the sound stays in the car which is where I want it. I think it is a major improvement rounding out the sound giving a fuller much more enjoyable experience. Sure it would not hurt to upgrade "all" the speakers, me I really won't go that far or spend that kind of money. However, IMHO this $250 upgrade is a reasonable value and really improves the enjoyment. That said, Toyota should just put in a better sound system. I listen to all kinds of music, well BOTH kinds Country and Western. No really, from Jazz to Classical, Guy Clark and Jerry Jeff Walk tp Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart, I could go on but you get the drift. So far while I might "tweak" the bass for the most part set and forget, seems to add all around good sound. I will return to update after a few months but not bad, not bad at all.
:thumb: I'll be installing one in the boot as soon as it arrives. You had yours simply hooked up to your existing headunit? Probably to the speaker-outputs? Or is that too technical a question Have fun with it! The seats of the Prius are excellent for this, there's LOADS of room under them.
Yes, sadly it is much too technical. I went to a small shop that the only thing they do is car sound systems. I handed them the box and we discussed placement. I read you could put it in the back but I thought with the rug, then the weather protection liner, not to mention the stuff I put in there under the seat would work. All I can tell you for sure is that they took out the cover of the center console and made the install invisable with no problems with the seat moving. They did think the unit was cool even if they are really into monster systems.
Can you tell me how it sounds compared to a 8" Bazooka? I'm considering between a low profile subwoofer, or a bazooka. I have a bazooka in my 2000 insight, which is the size of a CRX, and like the way it sounds. But the low profile subs seems to be getting the recommendations here. I have never heard one. Being in hawaii, i have not found a place to audition it. Thanks
One year after Christmas I picked up a Bazooka clone for about $25. It's only 30 watts or so. Hooked up to a speaker outlet. No, it's not the greates out there, but it really helps out a lot! I used a 4-pin trailer connector (+ & - for both the speaker & power) so I could easily disconnect it when I wanted to use the cargo area.
