It is probably read less than that now. The 4.9 V reading is like a week after it doesn't start.

I was reluctant to call Toyota certified road hazard people since I have a mild cold.

This thread is very entertaining. Congratulations on buying a multi-meter. Now buy a new12V Battery. Install it correctly. Negative lead goes to chassis ground. Your choice on battery, that has been addressed. Normally on a multi-meter Red is positive and black is negative. If you bought the vehicle on line, from a certified Toyota dealership, problems will arise. The dealers do not standby thier promises. The online purchases are even more dangerous, no clear titles, flooded cars, Serious damaged cars, but repaired to move off the lot. Most of these car experience problems later. One absolute problem with Prius is the 12V Battery, REPLACE IT! then in the future when car is healthy think of ways to conserve that 12V charge. Search Prius chat. :cheer2:

Thought my 12V battery had died, but it was my key fob needing a new battery and will purchase a new case for the fob. Without the fob working properly the car will not turn on or over properly. Even the dash was not reading properly without the fob 100%.

I assume that your Prius has SKS (fob has a silver logo on back and your car unlocks and starts while you have the fob in your pocket). Does the car start if you turn off the SKS switch under the dash and you put the fob in the dash slot? The fob has two parts- one is the transmitter and receiver unit that works the SKS and remote door lock functions (this part needs a battery to function) .

The second is the RFID chip that works the immobilizer when inserted into the slot (doesn't need a battery). You want to make sure that part works- and the RFID chip is in the case (separate from the transceiver button remote unit) and must be moved to the new case.

Lastly I suggest that you have a two fully working fobs for your car- it can be right inconvenient if you only have one and it breaks or is lost.
