Sorry for this dumb q but i can't find this anywhere. So the federal tax credit is $2500 but what about California state tax credit? I can't seem to find info on that.
The list of eligible vehicles can be found at CVRP Eligible Vehicles The PIP isn't listed there yet as it isn't on sale. The maximum amount for a PHEV is supposed to be $3,000 but since cars like the Mitsu I gets $2,000 and Nissan leaf gets $2,500 I expect the PIP to be somewhere around $1500-1600 perhaps less. BTW the California incentive isn't a tax credit, it's a grant so you get the money in the form of a check. Consult with your tax advisor to see if this is going to count as income and be taxable.
According to the table (at the bottom of the page), a "light duty PHEV" gets $1500. It's first come, first served, while funding lasts.
It's confusing that you pay $32,000 for the car, then you pay 10% tax on it, then they give you back $1,500 post-tax then you give them 10% of the $1,500. We shouldn't need to hire an accountant just to buy this car.
