Hey all, Just joined the forum, been lurking for a couple of days reading through some threads. Mostly been looking in to the stealth install that F8L posted up some time ago. My bf and I just got our first Prius-- 2005 used from the Toyota dealership. Smoker had it before so the inside needs some TLC, but so far I love it! It's got about ~67k miles on it right now, and had some major parts replaced in it and some other major work done to it before it came to us. First thing to do in the car is to replace the stock stereo. Just got a Kenwood KDC- 348U today to go in it, and I would love to be able to stealth install it...... Anyways, feel free to post comments, ask questions or give any advice. There is still a lot that I am learning about this car, as we went in contemplating a Matrix (we wanted the room because we have two dogs) and they showed me the Prius (I had NO idea that the Prius had fold down seats and tons of room in the back) and it just worked out and that car was meant for us. =) So please, feel free-- any advice, warnings, or whatever else there is to know that you think I should/need to know, post up here! Hopefully we will get some pics up soon! This forum was an awesome find, it's nice to be a part of a community that knows so much and is willing to help!
You bet... This site is one of the reasons I selected the Prius over other cars... Try asking for advice on other car forums and you soon find a lot of idiots who love to bash others and want to tell you how good they are. You will find many helpful hints and tips here, and enjoy the new drive. GT-I9100T ?
Hey now. I also have a 2005. Bought it new and have 196k miles on it! I love my Prius... just found this site the other day when I had my first problem with the car since purchasing it. I feel like 80% of the trouble-shooting has been done on here before even going into the shop. Enjoy your new ride. You're gonna love it!
Clean the interior with MAJOR effort paying particular attention to the fabrics and headliner. Then spray an entire bottle of Fabreeze or similar deodorizer everywhere. Don't forget the cabin air filter located behind the glove box (easy DIY, search the forum). Good luck with your "new" car, it's way better than a Matrix.
Aloha and Welcome to PC. I had bought a used cargo van a few years ago and the delivery driver smoked, it was the parts runner for a chain of local dealerships. The van stunk of smoke I am a former smoker so I could have lived with it, but my wife abhors smoke. So as part of the deal the dealership sent it off to someone who specializes in removing smoke aromas from vehicles. It worked and we have been happily driving it for the last five years. It is a van cutaway (just the driver and passenger seats) so there was not much area to clean but it has cloth seats and a headliner. Maybe there is someone in your area that specializes in smoke clean up and removal. Enjoy your new to you all ride!
Thanks guys! I can't wait to have a nice day to get it clean. And so far, new ride has been awesome! My bf does detailing, he's done professional and out of his garage. We can do it, we just need some nice weather good to know about the cabin filter though! I will have to look into replacing it... Also, good to hear that an 05 has 196k on it. I was a little worried about the car at first, it has a limited power train warranty, and almost every time we step on the break after having the cruise control on, the cruise control malfunctions. We looked into it a bit (before joining the forum) and we did see that someone had posted here about the brake light switch...what do you guys think? Is there anyway for us to trouble shoot this to make sure that that is indeed what is going on? Oh and let me know if anyone is selling the 05 plastic piece for the center console-- the person before me used it as an ashtray so it has a bunch of melt and burn marks on it = / Also, is there anyway to replace the plum colored dash? I have to say, I love the car, but the color is not a fave of mine. I would eventually like to get some black ones. I would love to do some major work to this car, but I am torn between putting work in to this one, or making two years worth of payments on it the trading it in for a newer Prius. Still have a lot to learn before I make that decision though, so I am glad to see all these welcome posts!! LoL, just a note-- please forgive me for any lack of etiquette on my part, or if I am asking questions in the wrong section. This is my second forum experience, and my other one, (a fish one) has a much more basic layout than this. I am still learning how to navigate! Thanks for all of your patience while I learn haha.
