just got my new Prius V 3! I don't think it has built in garage opener. Do you have suggestions as to where to stow it?

Mine fits in the little slot below the usb/lighter plugs. I have, on other cars, put velcro on the back and affixed it to the carpet below the seat, so as to not be so obvious to thieves who steal it and your registration to find the address of the garage door to open.

On my v3 I stow it in the area on the roof just between the two front lights. There is a door you simply push and it will lower. Perfect for me.

I have seen a video where the display button on steering wheel can be used to open and close garage door.

The homelink in the rear view mirror (as shown in post 3 above) does not come with the Prius v3. The v3 has a standard manual rear view mirror. I bought one of the homelink mirrors on ebay (they are not specific to Toyota, they just need power and they work). The trick was to find switched 12vdc which is recommended so the mirror shuts off with the car. However, Toyota does not include the switched power in the harness on a v3. There is continuous 12vdc that feeds the map lights. I used that and it works fine, drawing about 6 ma for the mirror. See my post in this link:

    Auto Dim Mirror | PriusChat

Note: In most diagrams in this pdf the switched 12vdc is shown as it would be from the factory in a v5 that had the auto dimming mirror. I did not use switched 12vdc because it is not there on a v3 without running a wire into the dash. Probably the clearest diagram of what I did is on page 4. This was done in 2012 and is still functional with no dead batteries.
