I am unable to remove the cargo shade from the new v. The owner manual was no help. Please share the secret. Thanks
Are you speaking of the tonneau cover over the cargo area? In the Gen. III Prius you just lift each end out of the u shaped channel it is installed in. I don't know how the Prius v is it more than likely is the same or the end may be spring loaded and you need to push the end in and then lift it out of it's mounting. Good luck.
Heading to the dealer. The inner collar of the end caps is extending out of the opening. Thus...unable to clear even when retracting.
I have a one week old Prius v, and I was having the problem of the tonneau cover end tabs not sliding easily into the U-shaped groove to lock. I got the problem solved today at my dealer. I should mention that my particular problem was precipatated by the cargo net, which was a dealer-added option in my case (which means this might not be a problem if the cargo net is factory installed). First, the end caps on my tonneau cover are not spring loaded, so I don't see how the advice offered above would work. Second, my problem was that the heads of the bolts were extending too far out, which meant that the tabs on the tonneau cover were being blocked by the bolts. I could wiggle the ends enough to eventually secure the tonneau cover in its extended position, but it would take 2-3 minutes to do that. The bolts secure a part that looks like a combination of a washer and hook to the inside of the U-shaped groove. Here are the two things the technician discovered that were the root cause: 1. The bolts had not been tightened down sufficiently, thus causing the inpingement. There gave about a 1/4" play for the underlying washer/hook. 2. The reason for the insufficient torquing of the bolt is that the washer/hook part is just slightly too big to fit all the way into the conically-shaped screw hole. The technician at first tried to torque down the bolts, but they would not torque down even though we could see that they were not tight. The solution was that the technician went into their shop, machined the washer to a smaller diameter, painted the machined surface to avoid future rust, and then re-installed the bolt and washer/hook. The tonneau cover tabs now easily clear the bolt heads. He said he will submit a problem report to Toyota on this problem. I'm glad, because now my wife will stop complaining about that problem!
To remove the cover completely the ends are spring loaded, plus you have to rotate up towards the small side window. Then you can store the cover below the fold up floor in a special slot.
Try looking on page 328. You are correct. See post #2. Exactly! ?, What did the dealer say or do? Once again, Brilliant. I did not want to sound like an idiot third gen. owner poking his nose in the v forum, so last night while at the dealership went to the v in the showroom and experimented with the luggage cover. It was stowed under the floor I removed it from storage and installed it then removed it and stowed it again. The spring loaded ends fit in the square shaped recesses on the sides of the car. Both ends are spring loaded pick one or both push inwards and then figure which way you then need to angle the cover to remove/install. From Prius v Owner’s Manual Page 328. (Luggage Cover) Installing the luggage cover Set the holder of one side into the installation position, and then install both holders from below with the cover in its contracted state. Reverse the procedure to remove. They may not write the best operators manuals but the associated picture should be good enough to figure out the process. Maybe the instructions get messed up in translation?
I got my V a few days ago and today went for a big shopping day, then the mentioned cover can't be removed!! I managed to carry all the stuffs back home. Turned on my computer, then search for the Cargo tonneau Cover and saw a clip on how to install. Next I added the word how to remove and Google got me here and the problem solved.. Great forum and great members.. Thanks a bunch guys
