Hey folks, 2011 Prius III with Navigation package and love it, but I noticed my rear-view camera display shows no grid lines on the screen while in reverse. My manual indicates I should have them, and I can't locate an option to toggle them ... Did I misunderstand? Do the 2011 Gen III Prii with Nav packages NOT have the grid lines? Thanks!
Hi I have a 2011 mod 4 and no grid lines either. I have not seen anyone on this forum say their Prius has them so I think we are both out of luck. If anyone knows with certainty both Delsfan and I would appreciate your help. Thanks.
I don't have any kind of grid lines except for when I use the APGS, then there are more lines then I know what to do with. What I do have is two little marker lines superimposed on video image at the edges of my bumper when in reverse.
I went through that issue too. However, the regular (not Nav manual) in section 2-4 talks about the rear-view camera being in the rear view mirror for cars without the Nav system. The manual shows THAT system having lines. I agree that it is kind of a bummer that the "better" models don't have those guidance lines, while the cheaper models do.
I wondered if and why the manual was even making such a distinction. It was my understanding before I bought the vehicle, that you can't trim a 2011 Prius III with a rear camera WITHOUT getting the Navigation package. Did I miss something?
That is true in the US, but not worldwide. I believe Canada, for example, can get the rear camera in the rear view mirror on some packages. For the most part, each country (and even different regions of the US) has different configurations available, targeted for consumer demand, desired price points, etc.
If you already have a cam, the wires will be there - hence a simple cam swap will give you the 'lines'. Most of the "camry" cams on Ebay (aftermarket from China) have the grid lines built in. I agree that having then makes a big difference (at least for me). This is a simple <$40 way to get the lines. Cameras take on the 1.5 week (due to shipping) - if you're handy, it can be swapped in 15 minutes (or less) - most of the camry cams pop into the same existing hole (I added a bit of hotmelt for good measure). I Ebay'd factorykiss, went to what they are selling, and searches camry to find:CCD Car Reverse Rear View Camera for Toyota Camry 09 | eBay - I hate links like this because they'll go broken in a few months... There are *several * sellers with similar cams...
Thanks, Rrolff. I was hoping it was simply a configuration menu selection/adjustment, but your explanation seems plausible. It's bad enough that every car manufacturer reserves most of the really cool technological advances for the higher trimmed vehicles, and Toyota - for the more expensive Prii, But it's VERY annoying to me how some Prius configurations in the same trim selection have some features and others do not. The grid lines are an example of this. Not only do I want grid lines, but I want smart grid lines. These are the ones that bend and adjust aspect based on your turning of the wheel when in reverse. I saw these on a friend's Maxima the other day ... and thought to myself - sure ... his is an expensive car, but this technology isn't and it should be available in all Prii equipped with Nav packages.
Does anyone know if OEM 2009 Camry backup camera have grid lines on the camera or only after market ones?
