Turn off the damn backup beep

You have to take it to the dealer and they can change it so it only beeps once when you put your v in reverse. I have read on this forum some people have been charged in my case the dealer did it for free.

 

My salesperson changed it to just one beeb when I picked up our v. One beeb is better than a hundred beebs any day!

 

I asked the dealer, was told that it was 1 hour of labor. They acknowledged that it wasn't much work, but they have a minimum. The customer service manager gave me his card and said to call him before my 5K scheduled maintenance, that we could probably get it done at the time for no extra charge. That's the plan currently.

 

A scan gauge II can change it to a single beep. They cost $160ish but they can do a whole lot more.

 

That's sucks... it took my dealer maybe 5 mins and he said he wouldn't charge me anything. I would call my sales person and inform them that they fix it or next time take your business else where.

My dealership did it for free at 1,000 miles. I have one beep now.

 

Having ordered one... I should ask, is there reason to expect that the same enable/disable codes that the gen 3 uses will work on the v?

 

If you have the dealer do it, make sure the mechanic does not have the car door open while doing it.

 

I do it free for my clients upon request. It takes three minutes.

I at first made the mistake of trying to send a custom command, which did nothing. For other newbies, the trick is to set up the XGauge for the given command, then simply view it. Once you get the "00AC" response back, you're done!

 

Don't forget to have them set the seat belt warning to one beep as well.

After hours of reading and multiple false starts I was able to disable the Reverse beep using my Android phone! Ha!

Using one of the ELM-327 knockoffs from Amazon.com (2 day free Prime shipping) and 'ELM 327 Terminal' from the android store, it was a 2 minute job (that took me 20 hours to figure out).

I did all this with the 'Ready' light on and the doors all closed. Not sure if that is needed, but just in case you can't reproduce my results.
After the terminal program is all connected I just typed the following commands into the little white box on the bottom left of the terminal program (not clear that this is where you are supposed to type and not very big, but it works).

Turn 'Timer' (right side of screen above 'clear') off (or commands repeat over and over again).

Commands:
AT SH 7c0 (hit 'Send')
Returns: OK

21ac (hit 'Send')
Returns: 61 AC 00 (meaning continuous beep)

3bac40 (hit 'Send')
Returns: 7F 3B 78 (no idea
Returns: 7BAC (meaning done)

21ac (hit 'Send')
Returns: 61 AC 40 (meaning now single beep)

I then popped the car into 'Reverse' and joy! joy! only 1 beep.

Which ELM-327 model did you get?

 

I know you guyzzzz like this DIY stuff but if any of my clients are reading this, don't go to this expense or trouble. Just call me and pop in. My service tech can do this free in under 5 minutes. You just need to ask me.

 

another, in a long list of reasons to move to californy.

 

Last Friday stopped by dealer to get plates. It took them 5 min to set to 1 beep for backup and turn of headlights after door closed. No charge.

 

Our sales person said it was impossible to turn it off, I knwe it wasn't true. Had it in for 5,000 mile service and asked and they said no problem, no charge beep free finally!!

Have not posted enough for the boards to let me post a link, but if you pop B005NLQAHS into the search box on Amazon.com it will bring up the one I bought. I just found one that was 'prime' eligible and did not have too many negative reviews. I did try plugging it into a Taurus today and it did not work, so like many of these knock-offs it does not like Fords.
