I have a 2005 toyota Prius with a broken blower motor. The dealerships wants to charge me $600 ($230 for the motor, and $370 for labor). They say the only way to replace the motor is to take off the dashboard. Is this true? Any ideas on a way to changet the blower motor for under $600?
The motor price sounds high MOTOR SUB-ASSY, BLOWER W/FAN. HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING - COOLER UNIT for 2005 TOYOTA Prius (8710347020) I don't know the GenII well enough to comment on the labor, but if the dealers is trying to hose you on the part price.... The blower motor is on the bottom of the AC cooler unit. There might be access to it from under the dash or through the hole a removed glove box leaves.
Yeah, a bit high. Might be padded so that if it is not the blower motor, they still make money spending extra time figuring it out. Should be 1 hour or less for labor (most places are 1 hr min.) and about $150 for the part at the parts counter, maybe $115 online. A potential DIY project.
