I have been saying negative things about the 2012 Camry restyling job here, mostly that it looks like a Corolla. I saw two on a car carrier on route 95 in MD south of Baltimore, and I have to say, the styling is quite nice. Much cleaner and more modern than I thought. So it is back in the running (looking for a 2012 Prius v, Camry Hybrid, or Prius with Plus, but comfort is the highest priority.) So now I will just bad-mouth Toyota's marketing division for not knowing how to photograph one of their own cars...
lol. If comfort is the highest priority, then the Camry would be at the top of the list I would think.
I've been looking since July and I'm glad I waited for the redesigned Camry Hybrid. Yes, I am taking a hit in fuel economy, but I'm gaining a lot more in terms of comfort.
I had an 07 Camry Hybrid (when they were made in Japan) and it was awesome for comfort. I put a set of Michelin Primacy tires on, and it got even better. I think that was before they switched to Green Tech, though. I hear they are not as quiet anymore. No hit in mileage. I have been looking for a CH to show up at the local dealers around here, but haven't seen one yet.
What's not to like? Comfort ... more HP ... More torque ... epa (combined) mpg of 41mpg! Toyota projects 50,000 1st year hybrid sales. So I guess SOMEONE must like the way they look (besides me) .
Initially, I didn't like it based on the images I saw. Well, went to the dealer thinking I'd get into a Prius...I'm now the proud owner of a 2012 Camry Hybrid XLE...black and tan. LOVE IT! First drive home from the dealer...56 mpg according to the energy gauge. Seriously blown away by this car!
Keep us informed about your initial experience. I am looking to test drive it as soon as it is available in the Southeast.
I convinced a buddy of mine to go to the Toyota dealer to take a look at the new Camry Hybrid. They didn't have any on their lot that we could find, but had one of the new Prius v. He ended up getting that one instead. He kept talking about wanting an SUV (he has no need for one, though), so I figured if he was set on a larger vehicle, this was at least an efficient one to get him into. They now have an 08 Prius Touring and the 12 Prius v.
I am taking a lot hard look at the 2012 Camry Hybrid LE model. Please let us know of the mpg you are obtaining. Also if your MPG gauge is accurate. 56 mpg this time of year is better than our Prius is getting.... al
I took a short test drive yesterday in a 2012 Camry Hybrid XLE. I like it very much but I am not yet familiar with its "finer details" to make an intelligent decision on buying it or the PIP (# 1074 on list for a base model). I did notice that it drove much more like a 6 cylinder than a 'hybrid' , it had much more pep than I anticipated. The Camry I test drove was an XLE with leather and sunroof, two options I don't like enough to pay for. My dealer told me that (at least for our region Southern California) they are only going to be getting very loaded vehicles and in a few months they will be getting some that are not as loaded. Hopefully there will be a wide selection locally for me to compare to the PIP.
Do you have additional info you can share with us on your MPG and if the computer readout for MPG is accurate when compared to the calculated mpg. al
On Dec. 12, the Motorweek tv program is airing an episode on the 2012 Camry Hybrid and the 2012 Honda CR-Z. It is on the 'Velocity' channel , channel 1102 on AT&T Uverse. It comes on several times during that week.
I ordered a Black XLE one yesterday w/ everything. Really torn between the Black and Gray Metallic still. Mapoftaz, are you still enjoying the vehicle. This will be my second hybrid, but I only lasted a few weeks in my first because the mileage and pickup were awful (Kia Optima). Hoping for better luck here after reading all of these reviews.
That's awesome. Looks like I can pick up a gray metallic tomorrow morning. I am working on a few things, but am pretty confident I am going to be driving home from my business trip with one. I will post how my first highway trip home goes. Thanks again
