Debadged my 2010 Prius today, look what I found...

This seems like the correct badging

 

How much would it cost to have the holes filled profesionally and then have that strip re-painted?

I would say that is 'the right way' to do this mod.

 

To get back at that last remark. I have asked my dealer how much it would cost to fill the holes with plaster and have it re-painted. He is going to give me a quote for it.

If I'm going to do it it will be right after I get the car (hopefully in a few weeks).

 

If you're going to have them repair the holes, make sure they don't simply bondo to fill in the holes. It will work for a few years, but eventually it will crack and fail. Welding is required to do it right, but because the hatch is aluminum, I believe, that may make the repair more difficult as welding aluminum is a bit more difficult than steel which is easy to do with any old MIG welder.

 

I guess that when I have the holes filled by a dealer I can expect some kind of warranty that they do it in a lasting way.

Is that panel aluminum too or is that some kind of fiber?

 

Why debadge? As if people can't tell that it's a Prius.

Soon after I got my Barcelona red '08 Touring I decided to debadge
the car. Removing the Prius, Toyota, and HSD badges from the lift
gate was no big deal; they were attached only with the 3M double-
sided sticky tape -- no holes there.

The HybridSD badges on the front fenders were an entirely different
matter. Toyota is bound and determined to make it difficult to
remove these badges. Yes, there are pins on the badges and holes in
the fenders. Right about here Toyota gets really vicious; the pins are
asymmetrical on each badge. And the pin pattern on each badge is
different! Toyota actually went to the expense to make two entirely
different badges, one right side, one left side, and they are not
interchangeable!.

As this thread makes perfectly clear, the challenge is what to do
with/for the holes once the front fender badges are removed.

Sphyrna used stick-on LED side lights to cover the holes.
He/she describes what was done here.

I did something similar, but more drastic, in that it is not reversible.

I installed BMW "arrowhead" side lights. This is not reversible because
it requires cutting mounting holes into the front fenders. It took me
almost a year of looking at side lights on hundreds of cars in parking
lots to identify the BMW ones as the best answer... find a way to cut
the holes myself... and screw up my courage to cut into Amapola.

I don't know for sure that this will work on the Gen III. Toyota
has added pins to the Gen III lift gate badges in an effort to take the
option of debadging away from buyers. Has she gone so far as to
add even more pins/ holes under the fender badges? Or maybe move
the pins asymmetrically to the very ends of the badges, so far apart
that they cannot be neatly/stylishly covered?

Gen III-ers, you will have to dare to find out, and perhaps find a new
and better -- at least to you -- way to outwit Mother Toyota. :cheer2:

I got the quote today, just Euro 350,- to have the holes filled and the panel repainted. Still, $475 is quite some money for having your badges removed.

Would you do it?

 

What about to re-mount the back up camera? I would not do it for $475 and there are plenty of mods we can do before that, a set of nice 18s and lowered will be few before I will think about it before such mods.

 

I guess the re-mount of the camera would have been included. In the end I decided to skip the debadging. Want to see some pictures of my car? They are in this thread.

 

any updates to de-badging? I de-badged before I read this thread...was rather surprised/chagrined to find the pins - figured the center Toyota emblem would have them, but not the little side hatch jobs. Clear packing tape covers the holes for now. Regarding your removal - would just leaving the holes open cause problems? I couldn't tell from your pics if there were holes underneath the panel that would allow condensation/dirt to enter the cabin.

I debadge because badges always leave those streaks under them. It's a bunch of chinsy plastic with advertising on it. The car is unmistakable - it has nothing to do with preventing people from identifying the car. The badges have no advantage for me. I'm not going to pay $50 for bumper plugs. This car to me is a money-saver, an economical way to travel. The accessories I buy have to make it more comfortable, increase or preserve resale value, or serve some other reasonable purpose.

 

Great idea. My wife's medical insurance at work just had it's biggest year on year increase courtesy of ObamaCare. And we thought W was an empty shirt.

 

More often than not debadgeing will hurt resale value.

 

How about buying some fender mount turn indicators to cover the holes. Add a little bit of Euro-style!

 

Same for my sister, she works for the city (in Texas) their plan went up 47% this year!
And now they are "taxing" the military by raising the Tricare premiums too !!
So much for free health care for life for military retirees !!!
