Hmmm, I guess that is with a good bit of heater use? You might want to look at your 1 minute average gage. You can correlate that gage with the driving. If it's 5 miles, car sits for maybe 1/2 hour then more driving, it should do little better than 33.

Thanks for the info so far. If you can swing most of the info outlined in first post, that would be great too.

Lots of heater use. Also, our area is quite hilly, so that's a factor as well. I often see 5.5L/100km (42.7 mpg) on the flat part of my journey

Please post what you observe over a full tank and not just sections. It's more helpful to others who live in similar areas. :)

So far so good. I finally got the fuel guage to move a bar since the dealer filled the tank! I commute in traffic about 25miles one way, mostly surface streets with about 5 miles of freeway. This has been the average of the first 109miles. More to follow!

Learn basic hypermiling techniques and I bet some of you will top 50mpg. Just takes awhile to learn your car and how you can employ hypermiling techniques on your commute.

I just filled up my third tank of gas and updated fuelly: Silver Prius v (Toyota Prius v) | Fuelly

Even with about 70% city driving I was able to get 46.5 MPG!! I am pleased to say the least. I am not hypermiling but I am light on the accelerator.

Nice! Now put the fuelly badge in your signature so you can show off a bit. :)

Just got our second tank of gas. This time, went about the same distance (388 miles) and used roughly the same amount of gas according to the gas pump at the station (8.753 US gallons)... so about 44.3 MPG.

The car's trip meter measured 47.4 MPG. This seems like a much larger discrepancy than the first fill up we had (44.0 manually calculated vs 45.1 trip computer). I read about the bladder like gas tank of Prius', but 3 MPG still seems like a pretty high discrepancy, I wonder why it is? For what it's worth, I always try to get the same amount of gas when I fill up at the gas station by letting the pump click stop, then depress the pump one more time and let it click stop again.

Sometimes you'll see a wide swing in mpg discrepancy. Over the course of 20+ refills you will see a real average discrepancy.

Your tank doesn't have a bladder like the GenII models did so don't worry about that. :)

Over 4 tanks and almost 1500 miles, I'm getting about 37.3 MPG. The car generally estimates trip mileage about 1-2MPG higher than actual, and lifetime mileage is about 41.

    Notes:
This includes a 500 mile (mostly at 75-80mph) trip to Las Vegas (MPG close to 39).

Most of my driving is local, short trips, so that hurts economy.

I'm a big guy, I carry lots of gear, and I don't worry about driving efficiently at all, so I'm quite pleased with 37+.

Gotten a couple of tanks of gas and am getting 40-42 MPG. Most of the driving is at 70 MPH with some stop and go and city streets also. Displayed MPG is consistently 2 more than the actual value.

Also, the range is very conservative. By my calculation, based on a tank capacity of 11.9 gallons, I can still go 70 miles when the range display shows 0.

    Stevemackie,

Thank you for taking the time to complete the data outline. It really helps those who understand how important that information is when comparing MPG. If you add new tank refills in the future it is easy to just copy and paste your older info and just update the mpg info. Thanks again!

We have now filled up 3 times since buying it on halloween. We live in a rural area with the nearest city with large stores being about 90 miles in any direction. More than half of my wifes trips are less than 5 miles with one 10 mile a week. Doing all the short trips we seem to get 35-37 mpg going to a City averaging 55-60 mph we get 43.9, it just won't kick up to 44. Lol. We haven't done any freeway driving further than 7-8 miles the rest has been rural roads averaging 45 in places and 55-60 most of the way.

First fill-up after purchase last night. 43.6 mpg on that tank. Liking that. Looks like I will fill up every ten days with Prius as opposed to every five days with my Pilot.:)
