Pi Prius Audio/Nav features

I've been reading through the Display Audio w/ Nav manual and I must say it sounds impressive.
Those with iPhone/iPods will love the simple, built in plug and play connectivity, on screen control, and voice command. You can even "tag" a song on the radio and when you plug in your iPod the tagged song data will be downloaded and next time you're on iTunes it will give you the change to buy the tagged song.

The Navigation system features seem pretty nice too. More intuitive to operate and search nearby POI's than in the past. Most all the weird quirkiness of the Gen2 system (which I despise) seems to have been eliminated. Features include Traffic, Turns indicators, Lane guidance and Sign posts. All good Except for Toyota insistence to not give us full functionality while moving. Just let me sign a waiver, jeeez.

The voice command system seems much improved also. Commands can be given without having to be in a particular screen. No more redundant questions/confirmations. Just say what you want in somewhat of a full sentence and it does it all, instead of piece by piece commands. I think, but am not sure, you may be able to speak POI "brand" (Wal-mart, McDondalds, etc) to the Nav system.

Display Audio appears to eventually be what the standard audio/info system in all Toyotas

The Premium Audio system is even better.

One thing worth noting with these new systems,
The iPhone will deliver it's ipod music library via USB cable and phone via Bluetooth.


Makes sense because it will serve triple duty as your Entune data connection, your phone and your music library.

The Premium HDD audio is a little different in that Traffic and Weather app data comes from SiriusXM. Which sux because that forces you to carry that service after the trial period to continue to have those functionalities on the nav unit.

Not so with Std. system. Drop SiriuXM and you still have traffic and weather through Entune.

With Premium HDD unit You're actually using TWO pay services for a trial period when you get the car. Money, Money. get you hooked and take your money. But SiriusXM is entertainment only in the basic system.

 

Yeah, more specifically it's the whole itune library and data link that must be accessed thru USB. The Android and BB use Bluetooth for data. And it says that can effect performance if doing both via BT
