I just signed on the dotted line for my first Prius... a v3. I decided to add mud flaps because I generally like the way they look, and hopefully we'll keep rocks off, etc. Anyone else have these on their v or gen III? Like them? I still have time to change my mind... What say you: Good decision or not? Thanks!
I have them on both our 2009s. I got them because they were needed - the tires extend beyond the fenders and that part of the car gets dirty very quickly. I don't know if they're needed on the v but I bought them anyway. I like to get these things from the PriusChat Shop. The prices and selection are great and your purchase helps support this site and its founder. For our new Prius v I've ordered wheel locks, a cargo mat, mud flaps and body side moldings, just like I did with our 2009s. When Danny gets the hard plastic rear bumper protector, I'll order it too. I've never regretted any of these items in the least.
I am getting them for my V3 from the Prius chat shop too. After test driving the car, I noticed a lot of road stuff on the bottom panel of the car that mud flaps would have prevented. It wasn't even wet outside. Since getting the car, I notice there are dirt marks around that area again. You may save a bit of money buying them from Prius Chat and installing them yourself but if you do not want the hassle, you may want them included on the car already. Loving my new car! I know you will as well!
Mud flaps are my first purchase for every new car. They protect what would otherwise become the dirtiest (and most difficult to clean) parts of the vehicle.
:thumb: Good choice. I got the larger euro style and almost think I should have gotten the smaller US style. Mine drag on the ice/snow-berms quite a bit.
They're standard equipment on the Canadian 2nd Gen. I added the Euro style for the 3rd Gen because I'm more concerned with the spray than with looks that the US style brings.
I got my mud flaps from the PCShop and tried to install them today. But they came with two little bags of screws, speed nuts and push pins and no instructions. So, I'm awaiting instructions from the PCShop. Has anyone noticed how much more expensive they've become? They cost something like $119 while the ones on my 2009s were $54.
Danny got me the installation instructions already! If anyone else has ordered mud flaps and needs instructions, let me know and I'll send them to you.
Do the mud flaps effect the driving efficiency? It seems in the videos and literature that the mpg are where they are because of the exterior design, so I wonder if anyone can tell me if they see reduced mpg when they add things like mud flaps and other exterior accessories.
