Just drove 6 hours this weekend listening to some of my favorite classic rock + heavy metal, the 8 speaker JBL system sounds GREAT. I bumped treble + bass 2 clicks and midrange 1 to get the sound I like for the music I listen to most often.

pvogel, you have the GreenEdge JBL since you have the FIVE with the AT package.

I have been drooling for that system. I have yet to hear it in person.

I'm curious to know about the search function for USB input. Can you search music by voice? Is there a limit to the number of songs? Is there a manual search function for songs artists and genre or is it just a schroll?

Yes, on both system you can search for music by voice. On the HDD it's album, artist or song name. On the Display Audio, you can also search by genre and some other categories. Both have manual searching as well, yes.

That is correct and that's just what was on my mind. Only the advanced technology package only available in the Five has JBL audio with the amp and 8 speakers.

I had a decent listen to the basic audio system, good quality CD, just sitting in a v Three .... it's ok, but it's really nothing special. The touchscreen is nice though. Played the same tune just after in my Coupe, big difference.

It's a family car, so I guess it makes sense. But the 2012 regular Prius seems to only get JBL in premium package too. hmmmm.

I haven't heard the FM because it finds the equivalent HD source so very quickly. HD radio sounds awesome.

I've heard it on a test drive and stopped with a good CD. It's ok. Quite sure there is no seperate amplifier, so the lows and highs are a little weak. I'm sure some handy people around here could upgrade it.

The JBL with Greenedge should be good.

Due to circumstances (don't ask) I'm about to order a Prius V / + / Wagon / whatever (called Prius Wagon over here in Europe (Netherlands), and yes, it's the 7 seater) but there's a snag... The first cars are expected to be delivered around summer 2012 (June, July) and neither the dealers nor Toyota have all the (technical) details yet. Still, I have to decide right NOW on the package.

I've figured out most, but one thing is left: audio.

I have three options: take the (JBL) 8 speaker set, the regular 6 speaker set, or go for aftermarked (and take the 6 speaker set but replace the speakers and add a line converter + amplifier).

For some strange reason oever here Toyota gives a low discount on the most luxurous version (with the JBL) so I can't do much but got for the aftermarket solution or stick to the factory default. As it's a lease car, I have to decide now and have the audio aftermarket included in the lease, or have to spend the bucks myself, or I have to stick to whatever it comes with.

(FYI: the JBL 8 speaker thing comes with the 7" head unit, the 6 speaker thingy goes with the 'Touch and Go' option Toyota sells over here as a dealer (not factory) option. I would not be suprised if it's rather different from the US head units, do a youtube for Toyota Touch and Go for something similar to what we expect to get.)

To put things in perspective: I'm currently driving a leftover Prius II with a JBL sound systeem and that one sounds good enough for me. But I've also driven other cars with very crappy factory sound systems, so some information would be nice (even though I realise things may be totally different once the first batches are delivered, sigh).

Finally, the question: does anyone know if the Prius V setup is similar / identical to the Prius III, and are there wiring harness adapters available for the V / III ? If so, I might consider doing the upgrade myself.

Just take the JBL, by far the best. If you are satisfied with your current JBL, you will be more than pleased with the new one. It comes with the Touch and Go Plus, included the 3d city maps and much more tech goodies. That's the reason i ordered the fully loaded.

Nice to have another dutchman on this forum.

Though I'd probably be more than happy with the JBL, it might not happen. The difference between the 'dynamic' and 'aspiration' version is too much, price wise that is. Due to increased tax and the lower discount the lease companies get on the 'dynamic' (our dutch counterpart to the V five it seems) it's cheaper to order an 'aspiration' and throw a load of aftermarket addons at it. Utterly silly but that is the case.

    So, here's the choice:

    1. take the 'dynamic' and be done with it (thus a bigger screen, the jbl system, and everything factory standard)

    or

    2. take the 'aspiration' and add (aftermarket) audio upgrade / parking sensors / leather / heated chairs / touch and go plus (thus, a smaller screen, possible better (or worse!) stereo, leather, and 20 bucks / month cheaper)

Is it worth the troubles for twenty bucks a month?

My only issue is that I sometimes have to turn it up high to hear it over the road noise on some pavements.

I am also interested to learn how quiet is the v compared to previous Prius versions.
