I notice what appear to be six small LEDs in each headlight, between the parking light and main headlights, never seen any illumination from them so are they just decoration or do some countries get DRLs. I notice the Lexus CT200H has DRLs and it's the same car under the tin...I think. Anyone help?
It is just a decoration or the rest from the designer's table, never used in production. Toyota decided not use it for DRL, as the 2011 has a special reflectors for DRL in place where are fog lamps currently.
It would have looked good if they were LED's but they're not and were not used in any market. There are after market kits available in Japan that have replaced them with proper LED's and they look good. Being Japanese they'll be RHD so depending on local restrictions you may be able to legally use them in Oz.
Thanks Grumpy, I think I gotta have these, even contemplated drilling them out and poking LEDs in there. Hmmmm, Yorkshire eh? if it's so good why did a certain sea captn, name a Cook, take off and discover Australia? Just jokin, been there and done all the touristy things. That Shambles looks like it needs a bit of work!
I saw somewhere on PChat - he baked off headlamps, drilled 5 high luminiscent LEDs and glued them back. No feedback about the potential humidity problems or so. I would not do this before end of warranty (if anytime at all). The headlamp assembly is quite expensive toy and we don't have a suitable secondary market here for the replacement.
Mine turns on. There is a button on the bottom right of the steering wheel!! JK Here is a pic of mine. Yes the headlight had to be taken apart. One apart I thought I would add a few other led's.
I think that a bit of patience and some skills could duplicate this look. I like how the color temps match. Nice detail!
Nice! I've been thinking about doing the 5 leds but like others have said, I'm afraid to disassemble the light also.
Disassembly is quite easy. The hard part is putting the lens back on without getting adhesive on the inside shiny parts.
