After not owning a Prius for the past Yr, I find myself looking at one. My 08' was a loss last June @ 85K miles . Im looking at buying a 05' with 165K miles, Carfax report shows 1 owner with a desent maintance history. their asking $6900.00 My concerns Does price sound right? and should I be worried about anything withend the next 50K miles?
At that mileage, and for that area, you should factor in a major repair within the next 100,000 miles, namely, the HV battery or the transaxle. For a car with that mileage, rebuilt or salvage make sense and would be of order $2000.
Yep, since the OP lives in a hot climate, I wouldn't be surprised if the HV battery on that 05 requires replacement within the next 100K miles.
My limit is $9000.00 tops 05' 96K for $8000.00 (not prefered one) 3 past owners, 1 car accident, mixed match tires and dirty inside 05' 125K for $8600.00 (Electic issues from non factory radio) CARFAX Vehicle History Report on JTDKB20U057051286 05' 142K for $8000.00 This is the I'm going for CARFAX Vehicle History Report on JTDKB20U857006595 05' 165K for $6900.00 (New tires, best body and interior) CARFAX Vehicle History Report on JTDKB20UX53012695 Is 40k worth a extra $1700.00 or should I just plan now for future replacement of HV and CVT
Of the cars you posted perhaps that one is the best option. Mileage doesn't tell the whole story and often a high mileage vehicle has done more of that as highway miles which seems to be less wearing on the HV battery.
Avoid cars that are dirty or have electrical issues. Ignore price and mileage and choose the car that feels the best of the last two. Keep $2000 in reserve for repairs or other life emergencies.
I'm thinking about selling mine 120k miles full service records at toyota dealer clean carfax im the second owner bought it with 119k it was traded at a toyota dealer they installed 4 brand new tires and and a new 12v battery. I'd like to get 9500 out of it the interior is nice but it does have a few scratches on it and rock chips. If your interested I can take some pics.
All because of what is a non-issue (in my book) that you posted about at http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-prius-main-forum/100043-loss-braking-while-going-over-bumps.html? At http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-main-forum/74199-poll-prius-brakes-problem.html (of a confusing poll), 80% of the 2nd gen folks responded "no big deal, not a risk" while the remaining 20% responded "can live with it".
$9500 for a car that is closer to death than birth, and has defective brakes too ? You have to be kidding
It is past death. Remember Prii explode at 100k miles whereas a Hummer H2 goes 300k+ miles on its non-existant diesel engine and GM reliability...
Not so many years ago I posted (what I thought) was a pro-Prius comment in a non-auto forum that as of then, FOUR traction batteries had been replaced. A guy responded that he was not surprised, and asked if Toyota had helped me out. LOL
According to everyone else the brake thing is "normal" and I think 9500 is a good price all anyone can do is offer.
