    Hello everyone, Newbie here!
I don't have a Prius but I am looking to get one for my wife. I have driven a 2011 Prius 3 and a 2012 V. For me, we don't really need the extra room of the V for the lower gas mileage. We would rather wait for a 2012 with Entune etc...than buy a 2011. I have been registered for a PIP for several months but don't live in one of the 13 intitial states so I would have to travel to buy.

I have few quesitons that I don't seem to really get any true direction from reading the countless other threads on this great site. Please weigh in with your opinions:

    1) Is a PIP basic really worth ~$6,000 more than a 2012 3 level for similar options (I think the PIP basic doesn't even have LED headlights while level 3+ will).

    2) What truly justifies the ~$7,500 premium of the advanced over the basic? Don't get me wrong, I love all the added features but just don't understand the huge upcharge.

3)If we buy the PIP and drive it back to Wisconsin, what if there is an issue in the ~9months prior to them being available locally? Will local dealer techs be able to address issues?

    Thanks!

    1. The Model 3 does not have LED headlights. You have to move up to a Model 5.

The basic PHV adds heated front seats, Remote A/C system, different alloys (no wheel covers).

    2. It depends. Do you just want a Prius PHV or do you want one of the most high tech cars this side of a 7 Series/S-Class/LS/A8 for about 1/2 the price of all the aforementioned vehicles? The reason is that you're adding all the Model 4, 5 and AT Package into one. The last time I checked, there's nearly a $9,000 price difference between a 2011 Five w/ AT and a Three.

    3. There shouldn't be an issue since they all should be trained. However, to be safe, I would call Toyota customer service and ask them about repairs (not maintenance since I know your local dealer will be able to maintain the PHV)

I'm also trying to decide between the std and advanced package. The toyota site is pretty confusing.
    What are Softex seats?
It looks like the differences with the nav system are a 6.1 vs 7 inch screen, and the number and type of speakers. Is there something else I'm missing?
Seems like there's some minor things like Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (which I have no idea what that is), and the auto-dimming mirror with Homelink (which I do like, but not for the $ difference).

Any other tips on what you're getting for the extra price and why people might think it's worth it?

According to what I read about the AT Package for the Model 4 and 5 includes:

    ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY PACKAGE
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) [8][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]Pre-Collision System (PCS) [9][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]Lane Keep Assist (LKA) [10] [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]Advanced Parking Guidance System (APGS) [11]

The AT Package for the PHEV Advanced ONLY includes:

    Pre-Collision System (PCS) [20][IMG][IMG]
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) [13][IMG][IMG]

No LKA and No APGS unless I am missing something, so this car DOES NOT have all the Electronic AT Goodies of the Non-PHEV (as well as no Solar Roof/Air Vent System either)

That's correct, the Prius Plug in Advanced will not have Lane Keep Assist and Auto parking.

I don't think the Advanced Tech package can be added to a regular Prius 4, only the 5.

Correct but you're comparing a 2011 to a 2012. The PHV will have the HUD and the Premium HDD-based navigation system vs. the DVD-based system on the 2011 Prius and APGS. Also, it's only available on the Five. The Four cannot be equipped with the AT package.
