it was the HD lucas. I dont remember the last transaxle change but i dont think it was too long ago. I'll have to check my records.

 

You guys are an inspiration. My 2010 Gen III Prius just hit 100,000. Bought it late Dec 09, so almost 2 years. Repairs/maintenance needed: 1 left headlight changed, regular 10,000 OW20 oil changes, tire rotations every 5K miles (OEM Yokohama AVID lasted 78K), 2 license plate lightbulbs, transaxle fluid changes every 30K.

 

What's your daily drive like?

 

I was thinking about the same thing, upgrading to a little thicker oil, my mechanic buddy told me it's better to stay with the spec oil and just spend a few bucks on the additive. ( I didn't want to argue with him since I use his shop,lift and tools for my DIYs on my Benz, Jetta and wifey's car) and no he is not selling the stuff, I go to parts store and buy what I need. The additive he recommended was a BG product afa I remember it's called MOA (motor oil additive) or moe for enhancer, something like that, red color.

But what I'm really wondering is should I use Lucas or BG fuel system cleaner on the prius?? Or seafoam?
Using BG fuel system cleaner really helps on my Jetta, that car idles now smooth as silk. I'm wondering how the prii ice will react that?

About 200 miles/day, 95% freeway, mild weather almost year round in sunny southern california.

 

Can u be a little more specific, how much of the lucas was used. Was this at the beginning with new oil. Or say ur down a quart how much of the lucas did u use. Thanks

 

Im using 1/2 a quart of lucas with ~ 3 quarts 10w40 high mileage. Mext step was going to be 1 quart of lucas, but i think in the long run a new engine would be cheaper. lucas is $10 a bottle, and ive lost quite a few mpgs in the last 6 months.

 

Have u done a compression test to see if oil is leaking through the piston rings. If not then maybe u can get away with doing a vavle job, or just putting a new head with gasket on.

 

UPDATE: 432+ Special Thanks to PEEF a member here. Sent my combination meter to him, took it out myself took about 2 hours. Sent it out Monday they received it Wednesday, they sent it out Thursday I received it Saturday. Put it back in and im on my way to Miami. I drove the car all week, put about 2500 miles on it without the meter. Remember if u do it keep gas in the car. Again special thanks to PEEF. Total cost $137.00.

Tell him they should be proud that they are lasting so long and that they should pay for it them selfs. That would be the right thing to do for good public relations. If, at 300k miles my car has been trouble free but requires a software touch that a kind member can resolve for $125 I will HAPPILY pay the money, count my blessings, and motor on.

A little perspective is needed here. Oodles of people spend $25k for a GM car they dump at 150k miles because they expect it to fail in the not so distant future.

Has anyone drivin the prius V I have an its nice, this is going to be a hard decision for me, I know i will have to spend more money, especially putting on the miles I do. Sometimes in life it is what it is. Just dont know if i want to take a mileage hit the V gives rated 40 highway. Nothing wrong with what I have and I hope it last. But the mental mind we are blessed with says otherwise. Put about 800 miles on the combination meter fixed by PEEF, and its working nice.

 

It's a tough one. Based solely on economics, you are better off selling your current 09 while it still runs, purchasing another 09 with 60,000 miles, and adding 400,000 miles to it. If it costs $10K to make the swap, then the purchase cost is 2.5 cents per mile.

But spending 50 hours a week in your car demands more than just economics. That's where the mental mind comes in. If the car is physically beating the crap out of you, then there is an acceptable tradeoff between spending more money and having more comfort.

Do you think the Prius c will be too small for you? That's liable to be the best bang for the buck, if buying something new. Set a goal for 500,000 miles, and you'll make there just about the same time that the c is hitting the showrooms. Then you can decide c, v, or III, and maybe somehow leverage the fact that you are trading in a 500,000 mile Prius with the dealer or corporate to get a sweetheart deal.

 

Extra room. NO Comfort. NO very satisfied so far. Willing to accept drop in gas mileage possibility if I can achieve over 45 mpg. Willing to pay more per month ( if about 100.00 ) . Something to think about how long will engine last, how long on hybrid battery, what about transaxle, looking at about 10,000 +. With all that Its just what im willing to accept and ignore. Im going to give toyota a call probably tomorrow and see what they say. If they want me to see how far the battery will go I will keep her if not everything now is a possibility. Im also considering the 2010-2011 prius. Really dont want to buy pre owned however it is a possiblity also.

Have you put down the rear seats in the wagon ? I did, because I also nap in the car (although no where near as much as you do) and found LESS good stretch out space, not more.
