Support Thread for Speed Lock Override sold in the PC Shop

I know I said that the bypass will be available by the end of 2011 but I've ran into some issues that I can not discuss here so they could be delayed til Jan 2012. They will be available soon because I've already invested a good chunk of my savings into this project. Sorry guys hope you understand.

After 30 seconds or so, they gray out again. reconnecting the VSS wire will not reset the process for another 30 seconds or so. during this time, reconnecting and disconnecting the VSS wire will not get the buttons back. You have to wait until the HU establish the VSS for the bypass to work again. By building this circuit, you can flip the bypass switch on for as long as you need to. However I do not recommended leaving the switch on for a long period of time. The longest time I've left it on was about 20 minutes for testing. After which, cycling the switch off and on again re activates the bypass without any delays reported by jayvee. The circuit works like it should.

I've started building the bypass. It's harder than I anticipated.

 

Toyota discontinued the software override on the Prius since 2006 for the US market I believe. Many have tried to burn hybrid discs without success for the Gen II mid cycle refresh. Since software override was never part of Gen III Prius, it will never be possible to create software override DVD for it. Hardware bypass is the only method as far as I know.
Be glad that you can override the speed lock via hidden menu. I wish the US market has that feature or else we wouldn't be dealing with this fiasco.

 

Just got done installing the V1 in a volunteer's car. It didn't work at first because I forgot the plug the gray plug in. After that, it still didn't work because the bypass speed was too fast. I had to change the value of the resister. Once that's done it worked. I wasn't able to test the V3 because I didn't have time to change the value of of the R1 and R2 resistors. Thanks.

 

plastic fab shop still making the blank panels inserts. They told me should be ready by Friday. I've been testing and experimenting different ways to get the override to work. So far the 555 timer is the only way. I've already made several bypasses but still waiting for the blank panels to be made.

 

I've emailed Danny all the info. The bypass should be available in the Priuschat shop shortly.

 

The override, as it is, will reactivate all the grayed out buttons and functions as if you've stopped while the vehicle is in motion.. However, it will not allow DVD playback while driving. From what I've read on the forum, only the HDD navigation has DVD playback. The regular nav that uses DVD map does not have DVD playback function.
The bypass I built for the PC shop is intended regular Prius because it is the only installation instruction I have but the pulse signal will work with all the Priuses if you can locate the vehicle speed sense wire for the navigation. I'm not able to locate pictures or videos on the back of the v's radio so I can't tell you where the VSS wire is. Knowing Toyota, it will be violet wire with a pink wire in the same plug or nearby.
As for enabling DVD playback, I'll build an override that'll enable it if there's a demand for it.
Keep in mind that I don't have access to OEM herness plugs so this bypass is not plug and play. You have to locate the correct VSS wire and parking brake wire (if I build an override with DVD playback) and cut it in order to install it.

 

I have built an override that also has the switching for the parking brake wire. This will allow the DVD to display the video while driving. The override should work with the Prius v/ATP and Prius Five/ATP and PiP advanced. I've emailed Danny on the updates. It's been a week since I emailed him the first time. I don't know why it's not in the shop yet.

 

Unless you have a 7" screen on a 2012 v,PiP or HB, it won't play DVD. It seems that under 5mph and applying parking brake will let the DVD to display. That's what I did.
On getting video input via reverse camera, it's doable but I won't do it because too many wire cutting involved. Besides, it'll still have that check surrounding warning at the bottom of the screen. I'll leave that up to the larger companies like Navtool and Prestigious Society to handle.
