I made a post about these about 2 months ago when I spotted a bunch on a trailer in the Sacramento area. I think it's a very cool idea! I'd love to have a sturdy truck that could get 30+mpg. In the mean time I'll keep dreaming. lol
Even after all these years, you're still a truck guy at heart? Are you sure you wouldn't prefer a zippy little sportscar? Or maybe a motorcycle?
Totally! I love trucks. You've seen the places I work. I could really use a truck but I make due with the Prius. If we get lucky and the GF can find a job near my work instead of 50miles away like we are now, then I would probably buy a Ford F-250 diesel for work purposes since my commute would only be a few miles and I'd be able to access my nature preserves and tow our other equipment. The only hard part would be restricting myself on mods for the truck since it is pretty easy to mod them to produce 1,500ft.lbs. of torque!
Not everybody can get away with using a Prius. Some of us need the bed space for hauling material, and the power for towing. This is a fantastic idea in my mind. I also love that I can use the battery to power my tools on the job site.
Yeah but surely the Pentastar V6 suffice (esp. if they decide to make it go on a diet rather than just add hp/tq to compensate).
Is a 5.7L V8 HEMI necessary? Would a 4.0L V6 supplemented by a strong PHEV electric motor be sufficient? (the electric motor, PHEV, could put out more torque from 0-5mph than a HEMI, yet on the highway, you wouldn't have that 5.7L drinking your wallet)
Ever since 2004 we had to hear all the FUD about toxic batteries littering the landscape due to hybrids. Where's the FUD for the pickup versions? Nope ... not a word. No one's going to panic over trucks I guess. I thought maybe someone would be screaming, "It's Sudburry all over again!" no? well ok then. .
People always criticize until their own car gets hybridized.. then they tend to shut up and praise it like it's the best thing since sliced bread.
the hemi is not necessary for most, but ram's current v6 lineup sucks. their new 3.6l pentastar v6 and 9 speed zf tranni is supposed to be a better mix of power and fuel economy but i wouldn't hold my breath. it is chrysler were talking about...
As significant, and cool in a macho sort of way, as the announcement of a hybrid full-sized pick up is, especially if Ford, GM and even Toyoya feel compelled to respond in kind, I think this quiet little, almost an afterthought blurb, even more exciting: :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
Those trucks had marginal improvements in fuel economy. If the RAM phev can live up to its mid 30mpg estimate, it would be a huge improvement for truck buyers. The question is how much is this going to cost?
If you can call them hybrids. They only added 1mpg officially IIRC. The main benefit was the 115V outlet in the bed to run tools off the hybrid battery.
