Thats Awesome! Great post!! I havnt seen this before and Im sure a cottage industry could result from this post here in Los Angeles alone.
Ground is not the correct signal for motionless speed signal that the combination meter puts out to the nav unit. This is why there's a big market for navigation speed lock override and why those companies are charging hundreds to manufacture nav lock bypass. Others have reported that grounding the VSS wire resulted in bypass for 30seconds then complete lock until VSS signal is restored.
You know it's hard enough driving without watching DVD's while in motion. Give your fellow drivers a BIG Break, so you don't need to apply the BIG BRAKE, watch DVD's when you are parked, not in motion! It may be OK in Sri Lanka to watch TV while driving, here in Los Angeles, not so much!
I agree but it would be nice for passengers such as a son or daughter to keep them busyso they dint keep asking are we there yet. I could drive with Thomas playing and not watch it lol. EVO 4G ?.
The problem I see with this mod, assuming it works for the US version, is that it would totally screw up with the nav's true position. You have occasionally turn it off for a minute and let it update the position. I hope this doesn't turn into a debate of whether is it OK to watch videos while driving or not. My personal opinion is hell yeah. I wanna have a video playing while driving. Am I going to watch it while driving? Not all the time, maybe glance it once in a while to see where the movie's at. The real enjoyment is listening to the movie while driving. I'm tired of traditional music. I don't have XM service so I can't really listen to talk radio. I'm sure there's a way for the US Gen III hav unit to accept an external video input. it would really mess up the nav position if you leave it on for long period of time.
I presume that the current controls will work (SEEK up/down, TUNE and next track/chapter). For us, we paired the iPad2 to the Prius' audio system, stream the audio via BT and mount the iPad between the front seats . Beats any rear-seat entertainment system (ok maybe except those that have A/V inputs for a PS/XBOX)
Why would nav be an issue.. to my understanding only DVD slot is the Nav CD correct? So I would think no Nav ... if watching DVD .... am I missing somthing... I did not see purple wire being grounded in video... has anyone done this yet, in the US?
No DVD playback capability on 2010-2011. It's available on the 2012 with the Premium HDD navigation. Oh? I'll go check it out. I don't remember the lag the last time we watched a video on the iPad.
Well even without 3G, there is lag. I transferred a tv show to my iPhone and played it via BT audio streaming and there's an audio lag.
