I am looking to move back to Canada in a couple of years and will need daytime running lights for my 2011 Prius. I understand I have a few options (aftermarket kits, always keeping the main lights on) and am curious what others did to install DRLs. I've also read that they will be standard for the 2012 facelift of the car. It's probably too soon to know this but could it be possible to "swap" out the lights with the 2012 version? Thanks!
Doubtful you can just swap then out with the 2010/11, they are a different shape. Look at these 2 pics and you'll see what I mean. 2010/11 on top, 2012 on bottom. The DRL's are below the front turn signals where the fog lamp knockouts are on the 2010/11. 2010/11: 2012:
^ but I am hoping that that skins are interchangeable. If so, I will buy a new skin in the future cause I am liking the looks of the 12.
me too, and my front bumper is already damaged a little that it will need repair/replaced and painted. So, why not freshen it up a bit with a new look. Of course, that means new lights, grills, and whatnot, but I can wait.
There are DRL kits available from Web Electric Products: http://www.webelectricproducts.com/ Here is a link to a discussion about the DRL mod: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...difications/85876-fog-lights-drl-upgrade.html
Given it has AUTO OFF, you can simply use the headlights as DRL and heat-shrink the stalk (with clear plastic) with the headlights in the ON position. A member here who needed to move to Canada did this and it passed inspection. They just wanted to make sure it couldn't be turned off. As for making your 2010/11 looking like a 2012, you can do what drunkin master did if you don't want to spend too much money.
I saw that and I liked it. If I get it repaired, I'm wrapping that same are with carbon fiber, I'll do it before the body shop gets it, so it can get clear coated after the fix the scratches on the side.
