BRAKE, ABS, VSC, & ! lights on after brake fluid flush

    Hey, all.

    I had a brake fluid flush on Saturday and this morning (Tuesday) the BRAKE, ABS, VSC, & ! lights are on in my 2005 Prius. I didn't drive the car on Sunday or yesterday. The brakes seem to be functionaing normally.

    I've read thru the posts on these lights coming on but am wondering if there's any link between the brake fluid flush (involving removal of the brake caliper feeder screws, rear wheel cylinders, etc.) and these lights now being on.

    Also, is the car safe to drive? Might there be something wrong with the brake mechanism, or is it simply a sensor/code-reset issue?

    The brake fluid flush normally requires the use of the Toyota Techstream computer in order to operate the multiple solenoid valves, etc and bleed any air out of system. You did not indicate if this was done by the Toyota dealer or not.

    If at Toyota, take it back and have them recheck. If at a non-Toyota dealership you will probably need to take it to them and have them properly test the system with the Techstream.

    I did not have the brake flush done at a Toyota dealership (after years of driving Toyotas and after using one particular dealership for service since purchasing my Prius, I ended my service relationship with them for reasons I won't detail here...).

    There are many stories on here about similar issues with Toyota, and other, dealerships sad to say.

    You may want to inquire about any hybrid specialists in your area with experience with the Prius that has the software to enable them to bleed the air out of the system. Or it may be that trouble codes were generated during the brake flush process that just need to be cleared since you say the car drives fine and the brakes seem to work properly.

    Being the brake system, I would try to get this checked out as soon as possible in case there is air in the system that could cause braking issues.

    Did you do anything with the Speed Sensor connection? I just replaced my wheel bearing and did not have the speed sensor lined up with the hole in the dust cover so it was giving me those codes as well.

    This is an old post but here is the simply solution. This happened because the computer sensed a caliper moved more than it was suppose to (ea. accident).

    When this happens you loose front brakes.

    Solution:
    With a paper clip, jump pin number 4 & 13 on the plug that's on driver side right above your knee. Put vehicle in ready mode n press brake 8 times in 5 secs. Turn car off, remove clip and your all set.

    If lights come back, you have something else installed incorrectly or a damage brake part.
