My wife totaled our '10 Mazda5 so I'm back to square 1 with a '10 Prius that replaced it. The horn on the 5 was as wimpy as the Prius so I'll be putting these on in a few days. It was an easy upgrade on the Mazda, just a small piece of wire and a couple of fittings to hook them together. I put a stebel nautilus compact air horn on my Prius. They say it sounds like a Fiat. It is louder but not sure its worth the money.
I just put the Fiamm high/low freeway blasters that I copied from EVPV.... Easy DIY, but I had to remove all the plastic plugs on top of the upper grill to fit my fatass arm through... Other than that... Easy.... These suckers are loud too... More than satisfied... Thanks EVPV & El Rey San Jose on starting this thread!
I had to use the stock horn for the first time today (car is 3 just days old)... a black Escalade didn't see me when changing lanes. Let's just say she was not impressed by the sound of protest issued from my car. And I was embarrassed. Just placed an order for the FIAMMs.

Stebel's require a relay. You can use the stock horn wires to trigger the relay, but the power has to come directly from the battery. As I recall, one draws ~18 amps.
I've installed the Nautilus on my MX-5 (Miata). Our o.e.m. horns are much quieter than the Prius'--and we're a smaller vehicle. Installation is more difficult than on the Prius. The Nautilus does not require a relay--you can swap it out for your own horn without much difficulty. I'm not sure what the amp value of the Prius' horn circuit breaker is. Not withstanding JSMITHY's response, it may be the MX-5's c.b. has a higher value than the Prius. I've had two Nautilus' on two different cars and they both "died" after 18-24 months; possibly due to moisture. One fix is to spray some WD-40 into the horn's intake, but that gave only a temporary respite. Others on the miata.net have had good results with the horn, but given my experience, I'm ready for something else. I've decided to get a salvaged horn from a big honk'n American-made land cruiser as a permanent fix. Yes, it will need a relay, but it'll be worth the extra effort.
I was planning to install the Stebel Nautilus horn in my pri but the issue that I am having with them is it's reliability. They are really loud though.
I use the Stebel Compact Nautilus on my dual sports bikes. I slip a piece of clear fuel tubing over the intake and run it up into a "clean" area, usually under the seat, so water/dirt/mud doesn't enter the intake. Three years later they have not failed yet. I also slip an old sock over the whole horn when lots of dust or mud is involved to protect the outlet.
Alekska, Sorry, haven't been on for a while. I just ordered the wiring kit that Amazon offers for the horn. It includes a relay but my horn came with a relay also. It would be better to use the relay and wiring kit because the Stebel draws more amperage than your stock horns. That being said I have since changed my horn again. This time to the Fiamms offered on Amazon I think.
