My wife and I are pretty much set on getting a Prius v 2 Clear Sky Metallic, there is one available in Fremont right now (oh no.. is someone going to snag it now that I posted this?? ). Anyway, I just wanted to make sure we are clear on the differences between the 2 and the 3 before we commit. I did quite a bit of research and it appears the only main difference is GPS and Entune/Voice Control, all of which do not warrant the $800 premium for the 3 IMO. But are there any other differences we may have overlooked and should consider? From the outside, the two look identical. Thanks!
Three gets Nav, Entune, Sirius XM (3 mo trial subscription), HD radio with itunes tagging, voice recognition, text to speech, voice command controls on steering wheel. Other than that, the same.
3 gets bluetooth if it wasnt mentioned. May just be me but less than $800 for the above mentioned sure doesn't seem like a lot.
I thought the 2 also has bluetooth? The 2 I saw in the showroom had a phone button on the steering wheel, which I assumed was for bluetooth. $800 does seem reasonable for all the above mentioned, but my wife would never use Entune or XM... HD Radio maybe. And she has a GPS already... though I will admit, built in GPS looks much better, but then you have the ridiculous upgrade fees dealers charge for new maps... at least her Garmin has reasonable upgrade fees. If she really wants a built in GPS later, I figure I'll just swap an aftermarket one in for her.
Yeah, that's my thing, for the price to have the built in navi I'll pay it. Also, living in a large area like NYC where I live or SF how much will really change that your maps would need to updated that badly. That's just how I look at it... You're right, they both have bluetooth. The 3 gets the advanced voice recognition and text-to-speech with programmed and customizable text responses.
We had been interested in Build 2, but the initial batch of Vs in the area were all Build 3 and 5. We ended up buying the Build 3 and are very happy. As has been noted, the price difference between the Build 2 and Build 3 is modest and getting the built-in Navigation is nice for the price. Clear Sky Metallic/Bisque, Build 3

After reading the discussion of this thread, I'm thinking build 3 might be the route we end up going as well, but only if we can get something out the door, with CA taxes and fees, for $30k or less. Think that's reasonable?
I think you can get a three out the door for under 30k, and I would definitely say the shift from two to three is worth the diff, it's actually quite significant as I read the car manual, lots of small things that don't get mentioned in those summaries. Get the three.
Paid MSRP. I was dealing with both Toyota of Morristown and Toyota World of Newton. We bought the only Build 3 from Newton. Morristown had a Build 3 available ([Black] allocated but not delivered - delivery scheduled for this week) as of yesterday.
I'm bumping this thread as I'm about to purchase either a 2016 Prius v model 2 or a 2017 Prius v model 3. Basically, I don't need a GPS or sophisticated radio or handsfree voice commands, thus the only reason I'm considering the 2017 model 3 as it's in stock on my dealers lot, while the 2016 model 2 is 350 miles away at another dealer's lot. My dealer thinks he can get the 2016 car shipped here at no extra cost to me, but it's on "reserve" thus it may not actually be available (I'll find out in a couple of days). Meanwhile, that gives me time to transfer money from my investment account to my checking account to get ready to pay for the car. I'm just curious if those who didn't really need the model 3 features but ended up buying a model 3 have ultimately found the features appealing or interesting? I use my iPhone to navigate, listen to podcasts etc. thus I don't need redundant features in the car. The only other difference between the model 2 vs 3 listed on Toyota's website is that there are more adjustments available to the seat (again, I don't need this). My attitude is that the simpler the car is, the less that can go wrong with it (and result in expensive repairs/troubleshooting). It sounds like the dealer would let me have the 2017 model 3 for about $1000-1500 more. My main question is, is it worth it for the newer model 3 car or should I hold out for the more basic older 2016 Prius v model 2?
Update: I bought the 2017 Prius v model 3 as the 2016 model 2 ended up having Ash interior and I need the black interior, so I shelled out $1700 more and was done with it. Happy so far.
We bought a 2016 Prius v Three recently with a black interior. We, my wife and I, absolutely did not want a white interior on any Prius (regular or v) we purchased. The cargo space is really good. We can fit almost as much into our car as we could in our old van for our annual winter trip south. Enjoy the car. We are certainly enjoying ours...
