^Haven't had such lockups happen with the JVC I mentioned above (hint hint). ;-)

To answer the original question, it could perhaps be overheating? Or it might be something as mundane as a software bug.

No, it is not common unless specific to that model. We have Kenwood units in the display board that play 8hrs a day, 5 days a week and they do not reboot like that.

My 6960 has been solid. I believe 9960 (last year flagship model) had instability issues in the beginning and then they fixed it with later firmware.

You may have to wait for newer firmware. I don't see any update for 9980 yet.... Check on kenwoodforums.com to see if other owners are experiencing the same. If they are not, it could be the install or a defective unit.

In addition to what usbseawolf2000 said, be careful of the reset button (red triangle) right below the menu selection. It is slightly recessed, but I accidently hit mine once. Call Kenwood.

Glad things worked out for you. I still love my 9960 based system as well.

Common problem with low voltage supply. Common solution is to feed a direct line from the battery, wired to a relay, switched on/off with stereo power source.

I had the same problem, which was fixed as per above. You can get the relays anywhere (best buy, ect..).

    Sorry to a digger
have U found anything that plays flac/ogg?

none of the factory installed system plays those format. the Merc aftermarket and the new Pioneer App Radio does I think. though they are free codecs there is no demand to enable these loessless format on cars which has nice sound system.
