I hate that GM has consistently lied about the Volt. I am almost certain that if it had been accurately described, I would feel better about the car itself. Once you know that everything GM ever said about the car is deliberately wrong, it is hard to trust the car.
Yes, I hate the marketing at GM. I almost wish Nissan and Tesla had come out after that GM announcement and announced 'INFINITE MPG!'
That's quite vague. Which Volt, the one that was hyped or the one we actually got? Remember the goals? There's a big difference between WANT and NEED. Let's not lose sight of priorities. .
I don't hate the Volt. I hate GM. I just think the Volt is a mediocre, overpriced car, that tries to be two things but compromises too much to be great at either. For some people that's good enough. Three years ago I'd have bought one myself. But with 100 miles and more available now, and my Prius having at least a decade of reliable use left in it, I wanted a pure EV, not a worst-of-both-worlds car priced 50% above what it ought to be. GM could have built the Volt three years ago by building on the technology they had developed for the EV1. But GM didn't want an EV on the road. So they waited until Tesla and Nissan were selling real EVs and they could no longer prevent them from being seen on the streets. Then, and only then, did they put their overpriced compromise on the market. I don't hate the Volt, but I do hate gasoline. I only burn gasoline on road trips, and my Prius burns less than the Volt. Anything less than about 200 miles, I'll drive my electric car. (Range 245 miles, but I won't PLAN a trip of over 200, so that I have plenty of range for unexpected detours.)
Let's stop with the "hate". There are enough people who 'hate" the Prius. I'd rather not stoop to their level of close mindedness and worse. Do I like the Volt? No, it's too much money for too little performance. Do I like GM? No, I don't respect it as a company for all the misleading things they've said (being polite here). But, just because the car doesn't appeal me, doesn't mean it's not right for someone else - a fool and his money comes to mind...
Hate is silly. I just don't think it's good for the price. Is it worth $10k more than the PIP? No Is it worth $5k more than the PIP? No. Is the PIP worth $7k more than the 2012 Three? No. Is the PIP worth $4.5k more than the 2012 Three? No. Would I buy a Volt? No. Would I buy a PIP? No. Would I want a Volt? Yes. Would I want a PIP? No. What would I really want? A LEAF, a PIP with a 16kWh battery and a wife who'd agree to both. My wife and I commute in opposite directions between 35 to 42 miles round trip We have a few local trips, maybe up to 10 miles for the week, and our "outings" are at least 40 miles.
The concern expressed many, many times over the years has been "too little, too slowly". So, it really isn't a matter of being for or against. We want high-volume production that provides an affordable solution for the masses. .
I don't hate the Volt, it's an inanimate object. I hate the decisions made by people to kill the EV1, and talk up figures which aren't true. It's electrical efficiency is mediocre. Fine, i can live with that. It's early days and someone has to be the worst. It's petrol efficiency is shocking. If it had hit 50mpg, or even 45mpg, that would be different. At 45MPG and 35 miles EV, you need a journey longer than 300 miles to use more petrol than a prius at 50mpg. I'd forgive that. Pushing this thing which is the worst EV and a bad hybrid telling people it's the best of both worlds is annoying. And it's ugly.
I got more: Do I like pancakes? Yes Do I like waffles? Sort of Do I like pickles? Kinda Do I like Okra? No Do I like fried Okra? Yes Do I like Okra pickles? Yes Do I like the Volt? Fugly Do I like Acuras? No, they look like Volts and their advertising glamorizes aggressive driving Sorry, got off point. Volt is okay, GM is reprehensible for selling it as an EV, even today. They have really muddied that waters with their false claims and misleading advertising.
The worst part is that the media has been "trained" to keep referring to the Volt as an EV. Sorry, it's a PHEV. Nightly Business Report has done it at least 3x in the past year or so.
Not only did GM create a new category; REEV(Range Extended EV), but because of this, all of us now have to use Pure EV for electric vehicles. REEV is like being "a little pregnant", lol.
The comments in this thread reminds of a children's story... Sam-I-am. I do not like green eggs and ham. I'm glad some folks like green eggs and ham...otherwise the world would be a boring place and everyone would be driving a Prius. If the price of green eggs and ham(Volt) ever comes down, I might try them. The people consuming green eggs and ham seem to enjoy it very much, and I have not heard about any negative side effects.
Exactly my problem, I know Sam-I-Am lied all through the development of Green Eggs and Ham and is lieing now about how green the eggs and ham really are. On their own, Green Eggs and Ham may be fine, but their spokesman has put them in a bad light.
