I bought one of those 2007 Camry Hybrids when they were still J-codes. Awesome car. The price was not so high, as I recall, but it had leather, nav, sun roof, etc. I was driving about 30K mies per year, and with the $2600 tax credit, it paid for itself in 18 months. I traded it in 2009 with 65K miles on it and got more than what I still owed on it. Great deal.

The base LE the mention is equipped with the lower hp standard 4cyl. right? Why do they compare the hybrid to a lower-powered less optioned base model?

I just came back from my local Toyota dealer. I went there to take a look at the Clearwater Blue Metallic color for the PIP order that is coming up and check out the new Camry. I am registered for the PIP, but increasingly interested in the XLE Hybrid which I am told will be here the 3rd week of November. The reviews for Camry Hybrid have been positive so far and I also appreciate any review from PC members who had the car as opposed to testers. Now, what! Plug-in Prius or Camry Hybrid XLE?

Tough choice. The PHV does allow for short trips so you "save" on mpg there as opposed to having to warm up the TCH to go 10 miles. But if you want space, comfort and luxury, the TCH is the way to go. It's a much better highway cruiser. It's quieter and more comfortable than the Prius, no doubt. The Prius is just more hi-techy.

Well all 4 cylinder Camrys get the same powertrain now. Previously, the SE had the higher hp (172?) vs. 158hp on the LE/XLE. Now they all get 172hp.

Cause.. it's LE vs. LE... that's all they see.

urgh... Camry Hybrid just sent competition into oblivion.

    0-60:
    Sonata Hybrid: 9.5s

    PASSING, 45-65 MPH
    Sonata Hybrid: 4.9s
    Camry Hybrid: 3.7s

    Real world mpg:
    Sonata Hybrid: 27 MPG
    Camry Hybrid: 36.9 MPG

Either I'm getting old or the Camry is getting doses of steroids because I am more impressed with this car after every review I read. I am still under 40yrs old so it must be that Toyota is building a damn good car. :)

Maybe I'm getting older too? As I think that Hybrid Camry looks pretty sharp as well. Makes me dream of ways it would make sense.

But it doesn't really make sense for me personally.

But I think Toyota has reclaimed some lost position with this Hybrid Camry. Good Job Toyota.

I agree. It's not quite sporty looking but it has clean lines and is pretty comfortable. It doesn't make sense for me to switch out my Genii for one but I'd love to have the comfort and solid feel of the new Camry. I think they are going to sell very well.

TCH spanked the competition in power and MPG.

Toyota is on to something. I was looking at fueleconomy.gov website. Besides the BMW 335d, the Avalon, a large class vehicle with its 20/29 city/highway, has better mileage than any other BMW listed on the site, including the 128i.

2011 528i gets 22/32. New one maybe even better.

Don't care much for the exterior or interior appearance of the Camry. But they definitely did their homework with the hybrid's powertrain.

You are right, this 6 cylinder has excellent mileage, better than some 4 cyl.

I agree. If the kneepads were actually soft and padded and the dashboard a tad softer, I'm sold. The leather/ultrasuede seats are a nice touch! I do wish they bring back the rear sunshade. Now that the battery vent is relocated to the driver's side, the parcel shelf is free to host a rear sunshade. It would help reduce the heat in the car!

I was quite impressed w/ the car when Tideland and I drove it at the Prius launch event. Felt about as fast as the Contour SVT I traded in for my first Prius, but gets over 2x the MPG!
