After an intense week of searching for cars all over Portland, we finally decided on the Prius. Honestly, it was my first choice.. but he wanted something more sporty. Finally, last night after I drew up an accounting scenario based on our other car (97 Ford Windstar... getting around 17mpg) we settled on a deal and purchased a Prius! It's a 2010 Dark Grey package II with around 30 K miles. I told him I'd have leather seats and blue tooth installed if he bought the car, and that sealed the deal =) I'm so happy... and surprisingly he seems really happy. Although, it's a blow to his ego because his narcissism previously wouldn't allow him to be one of "those green gas efficient people." We picked out Dark Graphite leather for the interior that will be installed next week.. it's a little darker than stock, which I like. I'm wondering if there are any other options that anyone thinks I should add to the car while it's in the shop? We don't want navigation, and it seems for the price of an upgraded sound system, we could buy and install much better speakers for cheaper ourselves. Any ideas?
Welcome to Prius Chat and congratulations on your purchase. Nice choice in color selection I will let someone with first hand knowledge respond to your questions. I will give your husband a couple of months of driving the car to get over his ego issues ! This is the most fun vehicle I have owned.
Just toss a set of 17" or 18" wheels on it, tint the windows and he'll love the car. If he is really the macho type then he will likely be supportive and care about our troops. If so then you can educate him on how fossil fuel dependency negatively affects our economy, health, environment, national security, foreign policy, and gets our kids killed when they have to go into battle to secure our source of fuel. There is a lot more to fuel efficiency than simple tree-hugging. Congrats on your purchase and getting the best color. The most important modification I would add to the car is a clear bra for the hood and front bumper cover. This will dramatically reduce rock chips and help maintain resale value. I wish I could go back to when I first bought my car and install one.
I thought it was the best color too =) I generally like black, but I think the winter gray is much prettier because of all the subsequent colors inside the paint. The covers are a good idea... I will look into those now. He will come around very fast I'm sure... he is aware of all the environmental hazards out there, I just think this came as a shock since he was completely refusing a Prius just 5 days ago. I think he is starting to feel proud of his purchase. I'm still so excited =)
Welcome aboard and enjoy the ride! If you have problems with the audio, you might want to upgrade that. The II is really lacking in that area.
I'll withhold my thoughts on winter gray this time (few of you know what I think about it, HAH! ) but congratulations on the purchase, and by the way I'D LIKE TO SOLVE THE PUZZLE!
Haha you have no idea how many times I've heard that. Surprisingly, nobody can remember my name. I introduce myself all the time and they say OH like Vanna White! And then 5 minutes later they are calling me Vanessa. I am assuming you're thoughts on the winter gray are nothing but extremely positive, and your lack of sharing them is only because you wish you had winter gray! =)
Do the upgrade on the audio! Head unit and speakers look at Crutchfield and do it yourself and save $$ E-Z They tell you how to do it. Leather is nice, seat heaters?? Enjoy! Car Stereos & Components at Crutchfield.com
Man there is just no fooling you! Oh yeah and how does it work? So you just touch the lit squares and the letter appears. What if you didn't touch it, would it still change? Is there a reason they even need you there anymore??
Grats and welcome to the portland prius club. Tell him its like a video game and the goal os the get max milleage, he will love it.
Mmm this sounds enticing. I will do it myself though... I use to charge all the boys at my highschool money to install their car audio parts =) I didn't get seat heaters, they were an extra $700 and I've had them before and rarely used them. Years ago I turned the letters, now we have little buttons underneath the letter blocks that I press. My smile provides all the necessary distractions needed if I miss a letter... and I am an absolute necessity. Who else would present vacation packages and make frowny faces when people missed letters? Oddly enough, I'm the one that plays the video games...
Congratulations on the new car. We have a Winter Grey one as well that replaced a BMW 335 coupe. I like to drive this car better - it is fun. The more you know about the car and technology the more you will enjoy it's attributes. Great information on the technology here: Graham's Toyota Prius
Yay, thank you =) I'll read that tonight when I get home. Even though he purchased the car, I am sorta pushing him back into his van and taking the Prius over... I love it so much. I can't wait for next Tuesday when I get leather seats installed... unfortunately, I have to fly to LA for a night on Tuesday and won't be able to pick it up until Thursday =(
