Ford is Henry Ford. The logo is the word "Ford," I think. Seems kind of limited and egotistical but I guess that is the way of it. "Subaru" means the constellation The Seven Sisters/ The Pleiades. And the logo is the Plieades. What does "toyota" mean? What does the Toyota logo represent? (The logo looks like it could be implying orbits within orbits...but maybe that is because my mind is hung up on the astronomical theme because of Subaru...) storm petrol
Toyota is a name...actually Toyota was one of the masterminds of the Pearl Harbor Attack on 7 Dec 1941...
Toyota is a derivative of the last name of the company's creator, Sakichi Toyoda. He first designed a loom, started a loom company, Toyoda Loom Works, and the automotive company "Toyota" was a division within the Toyoda Loom Works. As for him being a mastermind of the Pearl Harbor attacks? You'd have to show me proof of that. Why would a Loom maker mastermind a huge military operation?
Toyota comes from Toyoda from the founders name and means abundant rice field, not sure about the logo but have heard something about it just being a stylized T.
Similar to Ford is named after Henry Ford, Toyota Motor Corporation is named after it's founder Kiichiro Toyoda. In 1937, the name was changed to Toyota to simplify the pronunciation, and because Toyota is luckier than Toyoda. Toyota is also headquartered in Toyota City, in Aichi Japan.
The Logo is just a stylized T, its an upgrade from the previous logo which was simply "TOYOTA" spelled out. The Lexus symbol is also just a stylized "L"
it wasnt sakichi himself, but the family name of toyoda, some of relatives who were part of the planning of the attack...along with a bunch of others as well,
But to say that "Toyota was one of the masterminds of the Pearl Harbor attacks" is misleading. Saying "someone with the family name "Toyoda", that may or may not have been related to the Toyodas that founded Toyoda Loom Works may have been involved in the attacks" is much different than saying "Toyoda was one of the masterminds of the Pearl Harbor attack". The first one is true, the second one isn't.
Here's a quick bio of Soemu Toyoda, the Toyoda in question in reference to Pearl Harbor. http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/2WWtoyodaS.htm
Adm Soemu Toyoda member of the Supreme War Council and Commander in chief of the combined japanese fleet...1941-45...like i said, the name was part of the planniing stages of the attack...so if he's related to the founder, so be it...like i said, the name was in the plan for the attack...
http://toyota.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/toyota....li=&p_topview=1 In 1990, Toyota debuted the three overlapping Ellipses logo on American vehicles. The Toyota Ellipses symbolize the unification of the hearts of our customers and the heart of Toyota products. The background space represents Toyota’s technological advancement and the boundless opportunities ahead. ~MT77
So I guess that a prominent son of a prominent family was sent to military school and became part of the military industrial establishment. Mitsubishi made the Zero and my father would not let me buy a 240z in 74 but would let me buy a Fiat, or other German car. He fought in the Pacific Theater. That was then this is now.
Toyota Motor Co. was established as an independent company in 1937. Although the founding family name is Toyoda (豊田), the company name was changed to: Signify the separation of the founders' work life from home life; Simplify the pronunciation, and Give the company an auspicious beginning. Toyota (トヨタ) is considered luckier than Toyoda (豊田) in Japan, where eight is regarded as a lucky number, and eight is the number of strokes it takes to write Toyota in Katakana. Wikipedia
I have a very graphics-oriented mind. I see the logo symbol as containing all the letters of Toyota superimposed.
I know the official explanation, and I can almost see the superimposed letters (trouble with the A). Personally, I think it looks like a stylized head of a Samurai in a classic hat. Just a bunch of ellipses, I guess. Something to do with the gears of the HSD?
