Hi I am wondering if it would be better to wait for 2012s or would it be better to get a 2011? If so Why?

6 weeks ago I was pondering the same question.

    I didn't want a V, C or plug-in model.

That left a 3rd Gen model with no major changes planned for 2012 other than price.

    Ergo, I purchased a 2011 3rd Gen model.

I'm pleased that I'm no longer shopping and have begun to enjoy the benefits of owning.

Collectively, the changes (available HUD, Entune, color touchscreen in all trims, etc.) are certainly bigger than that of the 06 refresh/update. Perhaps your post should be directed to mrnoyb...

I'm not interested in and was able to avoid all these technology adds on the 2011 model. I don't believe the announced changes for 2012 will improve fuel efficiency or performance.

DITTO, I did the exact same thing. Did not feel changes were significant and my dealer had the exact '11 model and color in stock that I wanted. Love my '11 and have zero regrets.

When does the 2012 come out? We are supposed to purchase a new Prius TODAY and I naturally assumed it was the 2012 model. Does anyone know the wait time exactly???

In that case, I guess we'll be purchasing one tonight as planned. I'd rather have the refresh, but we are too impatient to wait that long. Thank you.

I'm in the same boat, considering between 2011 and 2012.
My 2cent: if all the tech gigs and gags don't entertain you, just go with the 2011, you might be in luck for some inventory clear out discount (I'm going to a test drive tomorrow, the sales lady already told me about that possible discount over the phone)
If you have some patient, wait for another month or two.
Oh, thanks for the 2 links posted above about the changes for the 2012.
I'm only getting a basic trim anyway, so probly go with the 2011 to take advantage of the discount (if any). The trims up here in Canada is funny, the most basic trim is already $27,900CDN, PDI and tax, it'd go up to $33,333CDN. (sign) But I tell myself, either I'm getting a Prius or nothing at all.

I can't speak to Canadian models/packaging, but even if one doesn't care about the standard touchscreen and backup camera (previously had to a big premium for nav on the 3rd gens to get it) and options like Entune, HUD, etc. one can now get 3-door SKS on model Three whereas before you had to pay even more by getting model Four.

On 2010-2011, models below Four have only 1-door SKS.

I put a $500 deposit and ordered a 2011 about 4 months ago. I called up the dealer, the very next day, and cancelled. I just figured there would be important changes in 2012 (like there were in 2006). Having the 3-door SKS in a III was worth waiting for! (Luckily I was able to get my $500 deposit back too!)

I should be taking delivery on my 2011 next week (it's on a truck headed from port to Chicago). After looking at the changes, I think I made the right choice. The updates to the nav sound good, but I believe it's going to cost a significant chunk more. Plus, they were dealing on the 2011's.

You do get LED DRLs and parking lights. The 2012s have revised suspension tuning as well. There'll also be a standard 6.1" touchscreen Display Audio unit. The current base model just has an AM/FM/CD player w/ 6 speakers and auxiliary audio jack. The 2012 will include USB/iPod connectivity, bluetooth handsfree (currently only on the Premium package and higher) and bluetooth audio streaming (currently only available on the Technology package).

Nope, sorry. TCI tends to keep the numbers to themselves until the day they release the cars for sale. I haven't heard anything from TCI on the redesigned 2012 Prius.

I've been following Toyota Canada for a good part of 14 years now so I usually can make a good guess as to what they include and how they price equipment. Our cars tend to be better equipped than the US models to partly offset the higher cost, anyway. It also tends to mimic the US models. It's rare we get more equipment than the US (The Corolla LE is that one example where we have equipment that's not available in the US-spec car)
