Here's alt-fuel, real old school--a De Dion steam runabout from 1884 still works: World's oldest running car fetches $4.6 million at auction http://www.autoblog.com/2011/10/08/worlds-oldest-running-car-fetches-4-6-million-at-auction/ I'm having trouble getting the link to appear, so you may have to copy and paste it into your browser; or just go to www.autoblog.com. Of course back then steam wasn't exactly alt-fuel--as I understand it, it wasn't clear for quite a while whether steam, electricity or petroleum would dominate automobiles--or that they would make it in the market at all.
1884 De Dion Bouton Et Trepardoux Dos-A-Dos Steam Runabout - YouTube This Youtube footage was great....... Looks like a rather large carbon footprint, though
What a waste of money. Sure it's a thing of history and of interest to certain groups and maybe collectors but $4.6 million? lol Come on they're having a laugh. Could you imagine driving that thing - a 130 year old high pressure steam vessel hissing away between your legs!
