I have a non-jbl package 2 prius. I'm upgrading the stereo system to the following Tweeters: Gonna keep the factory tweeters hooked up Speakers: Replacing all four speakers with the Kenwood KFC-1693ps 6.5" Subwoofer: Placing a Kenwood KSC-W1200T Tube subwoofer in the cubby hole above the 12v battery. Amps: To power the four speakers up front is the Sony XMZR704 4 channel amp. and to power the subwoofer is the Kenwood KAC-1502S amplifier My only question would be where would i put both amps? Should i mount them on the back of the seat ? My only problem with this would be the anchors in the way, on top of the battery cover? or should i mount it on the plastic tray that goes above the spare tire? Also, do i need a capacitor? The Sony Amp is 80W RMS x4 which will probably only put out about 40-60RMS reguarly, i don't plan on blaring the neighbors out of the house. So that should be anywhere from 160W-240W and then the amp for the sub will produce 150W RMS at max. Let me know what you guys think Thanks in regards, Alex.
You don't need a capacitor, those are for much more beefy systems. Some would argue they're pointless even then. I also have a non-JBL Pkg 2 and set up 2 amps. Check my build threads http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-prius-audio-electronics/69676-boston-sl60s-added-up-front.html and http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...7-jl-audio-subwoofer-amplifier-installed.html Additional photos linked in my signature. I went with two amps because I was being cheap and got them both for a lot less than a good single amp that would do the job. Now I'm thinking I'd rather have just one amp under the passenger seat. Lots of choices out there. I've just added a Kenwood KDC-X995 head unit, will be updating this forum later on that! - D
I ended up placing the amps on the cover that goes over the plastic tray above the spare tire, so when i go to open the cover to get to that tray, it's still usable, so basically my amps are upside down! Wasn't sure if i needed the capacitor or not, but both amps draw from it when it's needed i've seen the light go off. Will send pictures! -Alex
You definitely won't need a capacitor, especially with the Prius. I think it was F8L that was running 1000+ watts rms, with no issues.
