MP3 Options for a 05 Prius package 3

Many people here have bought and installed the <a href=\'http://www.vaistech.com/aic100i.html\' target=\'_blank\'>VAIS AIC-100i</a> which lets you run your iPod through the audio system with full screen/steering wheel controls. Also, the '06 will be able to play MP3 CDs.

i bought a 10 disc mp3/cd changer from walmart for $80 on clearance. not the best but works well. installed it in the center console, fit's almost perfectly. cables lines up right with the 2nd aux outlet. sends the sound through a fm modulator i mounted behind the glovebox. cuts down the reception a bit for radio stations when changer is on, but when i do listen to radio (which is almost never) i can turn it off and get back to normal reception.
i'm really tempted to test out the 2006 stereo in a 2005. hoping it will match right up so i can just go buy the stereo from the dealer.

Does anyone know if the VAIS equipment will work on a Prius with the base (single CD only) stereo system?

I'm looking at the VAIS unit pretty hard. If it will work, it will allow me to put in both XM Radio and allow me to connect my Rio MP3 player. I commute 78 miles each way to work, so this would be a major coup in the "cope with the commute" department!

I'm currently using a Belkin TuneCast. Works OK if you get a 10-foot headphone cord from Radio Shack and loop it around the rear seat headrests...this effectively extends the TuneCast's antenna, which is integrated with the audio connector.

If not, I suppose I"ll try surgery on the TuneCast and connect the antenna output into an in-line connection to the car radio antenna. Not exactly FCC-approved, but it might work.

I just recently installed an audio in jack in the car so I can connect to my iPod. I purchased a direct FM modulator (Audiovox, cost about $50). Then I purchased an audio jack from radio shack and connect to the modulator. The sound is excellent, absolutley no noise whatsoever. Do not get a wireless FM modulator they are useless.

Can you please give me some more info on how you did this? I am interested in doing this and need some help in figuring out how you did it. Can you give me details on where you hid the modulator and how you hooked it up? Does the FM modulator interfere with XM radio?

There is space behind the plastic cover where I installed the audio jack. I put some hot glue on the modulator and glued it down. Spiced power and ground to cig lighter a few inches over. For the two RCA plugs from the modulator, I cutted off the plugs and soldered a 3.5mm female audio jack from Radio Shack. I don't know about the XM radio though.
