Howdy all. I am a newb to the Prius... and all things Prius. I turned in my 2007 Lincoln Mark LT & 2010 Lincoln MKX for a 2008 Prius 5/6 and a 2011 Prius 2. The 2008 has everything the Lincolns had (got this as a step down for the wife), & the 2011 has everything I need (I like simple...lol) The 2008 is averaging (with her driving) about 54MPG, the 2011 is averaging about 61MPG. This is OUTSTANDING given the fact we are new to this, and I live in the mountains...lol These cars are like driving a video game for the best millage! (And I collect classic arcade games!) I got these simply because I frikin hate big oil. Mobil EXXON is the devil as far as I am concerned, and I figured it was high time I put my money where my mouth is. $117,000,000.00 in pure profit per day....man alive. My usual gasoline bill per month between the Lincolns was $1,100.00-$1,300.00, due to the fact everything is so far away and my son goes to a private school about 41 miles per way (82 per trip and 164 miles per day... just to get him back and forth to school). We figure we will be feeding big oil about $800+ less per month with these things. We are looking to get the Prius V when that comes out, probably turn in the 2008 for it. Freedom!!!!! I fell emasculated driving in this area without my truck... as everyone has a truck... but I laugh at the pump.... $30 to fill it near empty when my truck was $90-$100 per tank full!....lol Well, that is the short version!
Hi Dewman, welcome to PriusChat, and congrats on your Prii. That's great mileage you and your wife are getting. P.S. - You live in a beautiful state.
Thank you Michgal007! I love it here. I am on 20 acres and my nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile up the road. Very private. It scares me a bit we may move to Tucson next summer... Tucson is beautiful, but I would need to live in Oro Valley, and everything is right there.... houses all on top of each other, and I wonder how I will survive!...lol I forgot to mention, I have for tires: 2008: Assurance 195/65/R15 2011: Primacy MXV4 185/65/R15 The 2011 will get the X-Ice Xi2 at the beginning of Dec for snow. BTW, you can fit a pinball machine in these things if you take the head off!....lol
If you put studs in those X-ice the car will be a winter beast. I just finished my 5th NH winter with them(x-ice) and am going with studs in the future, a studded front wheel drive is IMHO better then a winter tire stud-less "all" or four wheel drive.
That will be a big change for sure, but you will get used to it. You are moving from one beautiful state to another (I went to U of AZ for undergrad, so lived in Tucson for 3.5 years). It is a neat town. 30F in winter? I'll take that!
Thanks all! I am wondering if it is worth getting a second set of rims to mount the snow tires on. The dealer with change them out for $60... but $60 every late fall & spring will add up if I stay in NH for several years. Spiderman: It was a sick gasoline bill. I cant stand thinking I am putting more than 10k-14k per year in the pockets of the gas companies... makes me sick. Not any more! One month savings will buy me a crapload of accessories!...lol
