Thule Roof Rack 2011 with Solar Hello all - been to the forum a bit, but now logged in as a new user and looking for an answer, or two. I have searched around to try and avoid a repost, but to no avail so here it goes. I am looking at getting a roof rack system for my 2011 prius (with Solar). Ideally I would like to stay with Thule as I already have a hitch carrier for my Tri-Bike, and can keep the locks all under one key. I see where Thule has changed their descriptions to say that some of their racks are compatible with the Solar option. However, dues this preclude you from opening the solar roof with cross bars on. I would hate to forget the rack is up there and open the roof and cause damage. If I can't go Thule, due to restrictions on opening the roof, are my only other options the Yakima systems that I have seen pics of on here. Anyone use or have any knowledge with Rhino? I believe they will work with the Solar option as well. First hand knowledge, pics, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Again I apologize if I am spamming the boards here with a repost here - I have spent plenty of time on forums and know how that can play out. Thanks in advance.
Re: Thule Roof Rack 2011 with Solar I use the Saris Bones 2 rack. Fits nicely on the rear bumper and hatchback glass and clears the rear spoiler.
Re: Thule Roof Rack 2011 with Solar The Saris Rack was no good for me. With a carbon bike having a bike rack that makes contact with the frame is a no-no. I went with the Thule 917 XTR. Grade rack BTW. Holds the bike nice and securely and the new cable lock feature is a plus.
Re: Thule Roof Rack 2011 with Solar Not sure what you are referring to. I have been transporting my Cervello P2c on a Thule rack for years without issue. It rests on the frame. What is the "no no"?
Why not use the hitch rack on your prius? That's the way I'm going. Gonna get the Yakima Holdup because it uses the trays so no touching the frame. You also won't forget your expensive bike is up there when you pull into your garage.
