Does anyone know if Toyta has used more softer interior materials for the dash or are they once again hard plastic as ever ?

They are similar materials to what has been in the 2010-2011 Prius (at least here in the US).

    Thanks for the info !
I asked several people who have been to the Motor-Show ( IAA) in Frankfurt ( Germany ) and saw the new Prius in person but for some strange reason they couldn`t answer my question .
Surely it shouldt´t have been to hard to tell the difference between hard and "soft" ,but what can i say ?
To my information they are using soft-touch materials in the new Yaris so why the hell they dont´t use them in a Prius which is way more expensive beats me !
I read a review about the new Prius V ( Prius+ ) which said that they have used soft-touch materials here and there on the dash,so i was hoping they would do the same in the "new" Prius .
Guess we have to wait for Gen. 4 to see improvements in that respect !

This noisemaker on all of the the 2012' Prius is really a bad idea. I hope Toyota either has an off switch for it or they get so many complaints that they put an off switch for the noisemaker. I am a little upset about this.

I would consider a noisemaker a plus in a parking lot. A switch even if it is only momentary, until the next noise event, would eliminate any doubts I have.

Highly unlikely that they'll include a switch, because you know some fool will sue Toyota for not making it permanent due to some accident.

As pointed out in the "noisemaker thread", this is mandated by federal law and there will be no off switch as it must be automatically turned on by the car by that same law.

I think it's bad too, but bitching to or about Toyota is pointless. If you really are upset you can try bitching to your congressmen/women, but that won't get you any traction either. No law maker is going to vote against a law that "protects blind people" and then be the first one to have a finger pointed at them when a blind person is killed by "one of them dangerous 'lectric cars". Statistics, logic and reason have all been thrown out the door here, it's our government at work.

I realize the law states the noisemaker should be turned on by the car. But there was also a lag period of a few years before this law will take full affect.

I have not been able to find anything which indicates the noisemakers can't have an on-off switch for the 2012 hybrid models.

There was an article cited on the noisemaker news thread on this forum. This article indicated a law which would ban the on-off switch was being considered. Apparently the ban on the on-off switch has not been implemented yet, at least according to what I can find.

Regardless, if they still won't let us disable the NAV lock out in motion what makes you think they'll include it especially in the sue-happy U.S.? If a passenger gets hurt because the switch happens to be in the off position, they're most certainly going to go after the bigger pocket, namely Toyota, rather than the driver, for "failing to make it permanent."

The last few days of any month is the best time to buy a car. Dealers have to pay interest on their inventory on the 1st.

I've seen enough documentaries where they talk to designers (not engineers) of both cars and consumer products... this type of ummm... verbiage and description isn't unusual amongst such people.

    Side note: You might find
to be insightful about how designers think. Jonathan Ive of Apple is legendary now. I did watch that documentary Objectified and found it to be just ok, not a must see.

Since the Gen II ran for 2004-2009 (6 model years), I think it is a bit odd there is a MMC after only 2 years unless they are either planning a short 4 year run with 2014s being Gen 4s or if there will be a second MMC for 2014 with 2016s being the start of the Gen 4s.

MMC? MultiMediaCard? Microsoft Management Console? Mitsubishi Motors Corporation?

The only time I've heard MMC used in the context of cars was with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation...

looking at what happened after recalls, i dont think they will remove that limitation... ever.
they are being sued by people who had 1996 Camry (no electronic throttle control whatsoever).
