Driver's sSeat Comfort related to height

6'3", with longer-than-average legs. The stock seats in my '05 Prius are just fine.

 

Good poll, but it sometimes seems to depend on things other that height. For example, torso length, leg length, and what kind of driving position you are accustom to. My friend is 6' 1'' but has short legs and sits a little closer to the steering wheel than I do so he finds it quite comfortable even on long trips. I am 5' 11" but I like to stretch my legs out and be almost arms length from the steering wheel. For me it is uncomfortable on long trips but not unbearable.

The car need a better, more comfortable, seat with more adjustments that will move further back.

 

6'4", long legs and arms. Would prefer a telescoping steering wheel, and 2-4 inches of additional leg room. Only noticeable discomfort is on 4+ hour trips, taking stretch breaks helps. Also seats were upgraded with leather.

 

Overall my wife and I consider the seats comfortable but they could be improved. On long trips the lumbar support is lacking. However, we have found a cheap $12 mesh lumbar support fix to this.

One would think that with a car this advanced they would have put better seats in it. My F150 had seat controls that allowed me to change the lumbar, tilt forward/backwards, slide forwards/backwards, and had a seat heater. Maybe the designers figured too much would scare the average car buyer away.

 

So...you've got 4 out of 35 "uncomfortable" who are 6'0" or shorter, and 4 out of 9 who are 6'1" or taller (as of Sunday afternoon). Conclusion? You're four times as likely to be uncomfortable if you're 6'1" or more?

 

Sorry to burst your bubble, folks, but as a physical therapist I have to speak up. The comfortability (is that a word?) of the seat will ALSO depend very much on the curvature of your individual spine and any back problems you may have. I have a mild disc bulge in my low back, and find the seat great. It actually gives me plenty of lumbar support that I so greatly need. In my old car, I had to use a lumbar support cushion in addition to the adjustable lumbar support built into the seat.

Oh, and BTW, I am 5'11".

So Toyota knows what a lumbar support is.

My dealer has suggested an after-market lumbar support installed under the seat cover for under $200. Does anyone have experience with this?

Could there be a seat from another toyota vehicle that would fit the rails in the Prius?

I can't believe that such an advanced car would have a seat that is uncomfortable for folks like me - 6'1"!! :angry:

 

There are some good after market seats that are most likely more comfortable than anything Toyota makes. The problem is the stock seats, in everything except option package 2 for the '05 model for example, have air bags in the seat backs. You can replace the stock seats with after market seats and disable the air bag alarm with a resistor of the proper value, but then you don't have the air bags. If you located a Toyota seat from another vehicle that has air bags in it the cost would most likely be prohibitive. Air bags, I understand, are quite expensive. Also unless the air bags in the replacement seat were in the same physical location and deployed in the same manner as the stock ones they might not work correctly when needed.

Note: With the after market seats you would lose only the side curtain airbags which are mounted in the seats, the other air bags would still work OK.

 

I'm 6'0" and my jeans are a 32" inseam. The seat is comfortable. I just wish it were lower.

I am 6'2" 300# I am comfortable in my Prius with Leather, I would like to see seat brackets that would drop the seat an inch or so. The only thing uncomfortable for me is bending into the seat when someone parks a bit close. so far I have had 2 2+ hour trips with no comfortability issues to speak of.

I give up! The majority rules! Prius seats are comfortable (enough)! Toyota can proceed with no changes. I'm 6'3" and I guess MY problem (lack of thigh support so that I cannot really rest my leg comtortably on either the seat or against the console during longish trips) is a relatively (or purely) unique problem. So be it. I'm outa this discussion.

 

[I"m 6' 1'' with long legs and was bothered with poor thigh support. I installed 2 one inch blocks under the fronts of the seat rails and found it to be much more comfortable.

 

I am in the 6'0" uncomfortable category. However I am built like an ape. Long torso, short legs and 36" arms. The only way I can get far enough away from the steering wheel is to push the seat back as far as it will go and tilt the back further. 200 miles is the extent of the pain I can suffer. I also have to stuff something in the bottom of seat to support my back.

Love the car but hate the seats.

 

I was just on I-95 (very busy N-S highway) for the back-from-Thanksgiving trip for about 4 hours and saw 3 Prius our of thousands of cars. I just wonder if a high percentage of the Prius are used as commuter cars and not really for road trips. When I was in downtown Greenville SC last week I saw 3 prius in 15 minutes parked.
