For my PDA I use a screen protector, from Brando.
I think this is very usefull against any scratches.

Is it possible to use a kind of screen protector for the screen of the prius?
And if so is it availble anywhere in the world?

Sigma Automotive sells them for about $16, have not used one myself so perhaps someone else here has and can let us know if it causes any difficulties with the MFD functionality.

Thanks for the link to Sigma. I was thinking about the same thing for the MFD. For $16, I took a chance and just ordered it online. The $16 turned into $25 with UPS ground shipping from Mass to NY (a ripoff- how much can it weigh)?

I'll report back with my "review".

I've been searching for these LCD protectors also. Almost got the Sigma version but the $10 shipping seemed unreasonable. Took a chance with Ebay seller for a screen protector for around $15 total with shipping. I, too, will get back to y'all on the details of this screen protector.

I have used Nushield products and like them. I uses their KlearScreen on my car, PDA, PowerBook and glasses! I think they do not have one as yet for the Prius. There was a thread a year or so ago and apparently the touch screen does not work with their usual material. I sent them a email we shall see what they say.

Here is something a bit off topic, but not. Reduce and eliminate finger prints on the screen. These bother me, but no more finger prints on the screen for me. Something I did not come up with myself. The hospital installed touch screen register in the cafeteria. One of the check out folks was using this "device" to activate the touch screen, perhaps to save her finger nails. Who knows. It is a Pentel eraser pen. Here are the pictures of this in action. It really keeps the screen clean.

    Wow! How clever.

Does the Pentel eraser ever leave the eraser "fuzz" you get from erasing?
I know you wouldn't be jabbing the eraser violently against the screen, but perhaps the long-term slight wear-n-tear?

Nope I bought a 5 pack and just use it in the Prius. No more finger prints. A light touch is all that is necessary. Got mine at Office Depot

I have no problems with my protector from Sigma Automotive. You realy need to make sure the screen is extra clean before applying the film. I thought mine was but I have a few small bubbles that I can't rub out. That means there are small peices of dust under there. I could just peal it off and try again but It's realy not a big deal. I know it's protecting the screen and I don't have to worry about passengers with long fingernails.

I got one from them. I think so, was their site LCDprotector.com (looks like they've changed their site to http://www.screenpatronus.com/)? If so they were very quick and I put it in place. I ended up removing it a day later because I could never get the bubbles/specks of dust out to my satisfaction. Plus my polarized sunglasses added a rainbow to the screen. If you do it right, it should work fine.

NuShield products are great. I have one of their protectors on my Garmin and it's as if it isn't there at all.

Regarding the Prius touchscreen, NuShield used to produce a protector for it. I bought it and so did Evan, I believe. I found that the NuShield product magnified glare on the MFD. It also seemed to attract more dust than the touchscreen itself and the dust was a bit more difficult to remove from the protector. After a few months, I decided to toss it.

Anyway, last I heard was something like the Prius product was not a viable one for them to sell. As I recall, it was basically insufficient demand coupled with the material's high cost. I think, at one point, we were told they would continue to produce them if we could get something like a group buy together (i.e. they'd make 'em if we'd buy 'em in bulk).

I think the eraser pen is great. I hope I can buy it in Holland.

I'd like to know if it's going to be made from the same material they used before. If so, I'll pass.

I got the impression from them that it would be a new material. I will let you know when they email me.

That would be truly great! I hope it's more like the stuff I have on my Garmin. The old material just didn't work very well on a number of levels.

Either that or I might have to go out and get myself a bunch of those Pentel Click erasers (my daughter would keep stealing them so I'd need a bunch).

Try driving gloves. No fingerprints on the MFD, and as a bonus you'll never need to clean the steering wheel.
