    To get my first Prius!!

Hi everyone!! Thank you for all of the notes and comments on this site. I've not had a chance to dig through it all yet, but have read a lot, including the newbie PDF about mileage...

I've been trying to buy a Prius for 3 years but it never seemed to have enough power for me. I finally pulled the trigger and traded my 2010 Tacoma in for a 2011 prius 3. Just after I agreed to the purchase price, my heart sank as I looked longingly over at my taco, parked in the shade waiting to be driven away... I could have sworn that it looked back at me with tears in it's headlights!

Anyway, after the first day I was happy with my decision and even happier at the pump for the first fill up! I figure I'll be saving about $40 a week in gas here in LA.

I still don't have the hang of driving her as I'm only averaging 42 mpg. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong really, as I've said, I've read alot about how to drive it and assume that I must be doing something wrong.

If anyone is lurking and having a tough time deciding whether or not to buy, DO IT!!! You won't be sorry! I just wish someone would make a truck that gets this kind of mpg!

Thanks for reading and remember, Music is the best!

And I'd be right in line behind you to get one although I'd seriously doubt even a mini-truck would get Prius level fuel economy; mid-30's would be fine with me. You'll find that the hatchback design/flip down rear seats offer tremendous carrying ability for a car.

Learn all about the HSI display and once both you and the ICE get broken in, better mpg's will come.

You're probably doing nothing wrong. If you have not reset the MPG gauge then you are working off of the MPG that other drivers obtained while test driving it. Go fill up the tank and reset the gauge and see what happens.

Also keep in mind that short trips will drop your mpg by quite a bit so try to combine trips so the engine stays warm and doesn't have to go through the heating cycle over and over.

    Welcome To PriusChat .

I remember the excitement waiting for my 2007 Prius to come in. Every since than I remain excited with all the features of this wonderful car. But Best Of All The Gas Savings, I have been getting 56 MPG for the last 4 years.

I hope you enjoy your new baby as much as I do mine.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! I love, love, love the new Prius and am very happy with my decision to trade in the truck. Although at times I do miss the taco, but only for a moment! I do reset the mpg gauge, at least I think I do! I'll double check.

    Thanks again!
