I bought a '05 last week and I love it. The saleperson I bought the car from mentioned that I would need to insert the FOB in the FOB holder about once a month to allow it to sync. Is this true? I can't seem to find any information related to this and I can't think of a reason to need to sync.
"Fob holder"? The slot in the dash maybe? In any case, he's FOS. I think I've inserted the fob in the dash 2 time in over 2 years of ownership. I think the car wash has done it once or twice too. But it certainly never needs to be synced or anything like that.
It "syncs" every time you use it, whether it's in the slot or not. It'll only go out of sync if you press the lock/unlock button a couple of hundred times out of range of the car.
Thanks for the reply. "Fob holder" was the best I could come up with - not really "coinable." I was dealing with the worst car salesperson I've ever worked with; he gave me almost no information whatsoever and apparently when he gave me information it was garbage - so I guess I'm lucky he did keep his mouth shut most of the time. I almost felt bad buying from this guy because I didn't want to reward his incompetence. Luckily I found places like this to do my own research before I bought the car and I didn't have to rely on him. I've learned a lot on this site and some others so thanks to everyone that has taken the time to provide all of information they have gained from their own research and experience. BTW, I'm not sure what model I bought, but it was the lowest end one the mid-atlantic (Northern VA) dealership had. The car came with smart key, auto dim, single CD, auto mirrors, auto windows, auto locks and climate control. It doesn't have the extra air bags or vehicle stability, no fancy headlights or CD changer, no bluetooth or nav - I fall into the cheap category of buyers ( not really an environmentalist, at least not the way it's commonly defined) and didn't see a need for any of that extra stuff. The color is Tidal something - it's a dark gray with an underlying green to it.
That color is named Tideland Pearl, and has been discontinued for '06 so you may have one of the last ones. I like the way that it looks grey in some lights and green in others.
well "FOB Holder" would definitely be a reject if presented to the Sniglet committee maybe "Keyole" (spoken with an Italian accent)
I like it too and I like the fact the it's discontinued - it will make it easier to recognize in a parking lot full of Prius'.
Sounds like you may have gotten what is refered to as package #2 (AG). I have found most car salesmen really don't know as much about the cars they sell as a well informed customer does. Many of them are experts at screwing you out of your money though.
