TSB for oil change door

Hi all, my oil change door also fell down and dragged on the highway grinding a third of it away. I need help in indentifying which plant my car was manufactured at. I see no plant location on the inside door pillar or on the original window sticker.
My VIN is JTDKN3DU5A1078472. The TSB posted has a # sign where a number should be. I called my service department and they were very defensive saying it won't be covered and I had to bring the vehicle into the shop. All I wanted to know was if my vin fell into this tsb document. I'm not going to take a day off of work or order parts if its not covered under warranty. Thanks, I have gained alot of knowledge here but never needed to post before.

 

The number in the 11th position of the VIN is the plant code, a 1 in yours indicates Tsutsumi plant line #2.

 

Thanks tumbleweed and seilerts for the great information and quick response. I'm in the process of repairing the oil door and using tie wraps and gorilla tape on the hinge area as others have done. I'm not adverse to leaving the door off except I fear that snow may wedge the rest of the panel off.
I have 30k miles clocked and still have time to see the dealer. I just hate having to fight with them. I get the impression that they try to wear you down by making you come back multiple times until you quit.
Overall this is a great car and if this is the only problem I have I can't complain!

 

It concerns me that Toyota knows that the undercover/oil change door, is defective as it has been updated on later models.

That Toyota will not repair/replace after 36,000 miles warranty even that it is confirmed a defective part, and if it was not defective why did they change/upgrade with a part to replace that one in later Prius models??

It would seem that an attorney could file a class action suit against Toyota.

We had the engine under cover replaced today during our 6 month oil change visit. It seems to me that the new cover has more openings in it than the original cover did--has any one else done a before and after comparison?

 

does this include the 2010 Canadian models too ?

The should apply universally but apparently not the case. Wouldn't hurt to print it out and take it to the stealership and ask. Is yours an US or Canadian model?

 

Mine a Canadian model, I think it the cover is still hanging, from driving in the snow 2 days ago

 

In that case, if they know that, they will say it was an act of God and not replace it under the TSB. But who knows, worth a try.

so I took it to toyota, the middle part of the engine cover came off, it actually tore further, they just cut that piece off, and than they tied the rest of the clips down with zip ties to be more secure.

They told me that part costs $400, loll

I just told them I'll pass for now, but I get paranoid when it comes to something damaged or not fixed properly.

I came across this on ebay, and I was wondering if it'll do the job, and be a exact fit for my 2010 Prius, because I believe this part is designed for the 2011 Model, let me know what you guys think.

I just had mine fixed today. The oil door was hanging down slightly, but could not be attached by a clips anymore after only 2 oil changes. The service writer checked if they did the oil changes (they did), took the TSB printout from me and I had it fixed and car washed in 1.5 hrs.

When I came back and looked underneath, I saw more openings that I remembered in the old one, especially on the transaxle side. I took some pictures. Is this for more tranny cooling? Or is my recollection wrong about the old panel?

BTW, the TSB specifies part number 51410-12103. The installed part # is 51410-12104 on the sticker, but they called it 51410-12105 on the receipt (newer version?).

 

Is the TSB covered on any sort of warranty ?

Cause I brought mine into the Toyota dealership, and they told me that my Platinum warranty does not cover these hatches etc... What they did for me was to cut the piece off and just left that gap opened

 

Did you read the pdf? It states 36,000 miles/36 months on the page 2.
