2010 Prius OEM-quality Fog Light Kit Now Available!

Order on August 8th and received on August 16th. Just installed it today and it took about two hours.

I'm glad I read through all the postings. 2011 Prius does have a different fuse box configuration. I installed to the top left as others mentioned.

Now the front looks complete. Next project is the rear view camera and LCD mirror.

 

New to the forum - great info here. I'm getting ready to install the foglight kit and my question is around using the bridge connector to connect the red wire to the brown wire from the ECU. Do you have to cut the brown wire from the existing ECU harness? I have seen T tap connectors that allow you to tap into an existing wire, but the instructions for the foglight kit does not look like a T tap. Thanks.

 

No need to cut... use the T tap.

Just wondering where my order is at?.. I ordered on aug 3 never received Any tracking#, then someone (sko580) orders on the 8th and receives it after a week.. This sucks..

 

Just installed the fog light kit with hardly any difficulty, took about 3 hours. One thing to note is that if you connect the red wire to the fusebox there are two ways it can go in - it fits both one way and turned 180 degrees the other way - both ways fit easily but it matters which way you insert it. I originally inserted it the wrong way and the car would not move out of neutral and every warning light was lit up on the dash. If you run into this just take it out and turn it and reinsert. Hope this helps anyone who runs into this problem.

 

I got the kit about a week ago (an excellent kit and value) and thought I’d have a local auto repair shop do the install for me since I did not see me having the time for several weeks. The shop did a nice install job, but the lights stay on when the switch is on and the car is off. I’m posting this because I’m guessing someone may know where the wiring may be off and can point me to it so I can make a fix to the circuit.

 

When adding aftermarket fog lights to the car you are powering them through their own seperate circuit to my knowledge.. For the fog lamps to turn on/off with the headlamps/car you would have to wire them into the circuitry directly tied to the switch. The kit I think by passes all of that, and you just make you own 12V circuit with a switch to power the lights. I could very well be wrong. This is the way it has worked on other cars I have installed fog lamps in though (granted the Prius is a very different car). This is my first car with push button start though, so I wouldn't even know where to begin to help you. In my older cars with key ignition telling you how to fix that would be easy. I am looking at buying this kit myself, and interested in the answer to this as well though.

EDIT: After going back and reading through the thread it would appear you did not connect up to the brown wire properly on the ECU. As that is what gives the fog lamps either a good ground or power to run when the car is on/turns them off when you shut it off. I would check your connection there to see if maybe it is lose, or you have an open reading on a multimeter.

 

Still having my issue with the lights staying on.
Sorry for the delay, here are the pics of the feed from the fusebox (same as sko580) but they stay on all the time the switch is on including well after the car is off and when the high beams are on. Notice that the instructions call for the power to come from a point that my car already has something else (factory) plugged into.

I'm hoping someone can guide me where to take the power from so that I can have the lights turn off when the car is off.

Any help or comments are appreciated....

 

The red wire in the engine compartment has nothing to do with determining when the lights go on or off. This red wire supplies power to the fog lights when the relay is energized.

The wire that you need to be concerned with is the one on the inside. The instructions show to splice the red wire to the relay coil to the brown wire in the wire bundle. This brown wire is energized whenever the parking lights, headlights or bright lights are on.

My '08 was wired off the window circut so when the car was off and the door was opened the lights would go off. I was hoping that I did not have to pull the lower dash off to make the fix, but will if needed.

I see that step 5.1 (in the colored install instructions) mentions the Brown wire, does anyone have a detailed picture of how you made the splice?

 

There should have been a T-splice with the kit. If you still have this then the brown wire passes through and the red wire stops halfway. You fold the top over and push down until the plastic covers snap together. I used a pair of pliers to press the two together further since it is hard to get much pressure with just your hands.

If you do not have the T-splice you can get one at Radio Shack, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.

Pulling the lower dash to get to the brown wire is not hard. Just follow the instructions. They are very good.

Has anybody got an issue with Safety inspection ?



my 2010 Prius failed VA safety inspection

I have these fog lights installed on my Prius

The inspector says -
when you turn on High Beam - Then your fog Lamps should turn off

and currently this is not happening.

How to resolve this issue and safety inspection completed ?

What I remember seeing to solve this problem was to add another 12V relay, connect the coil to the High Beam signal wire and break the Fog Light red wire through a set of normally closed contacts. This way when the High Beams turn on they de-energize the Fog Lights.

 

I checked mine this morning and they are roughly 3 inches in diameter.

also just an FYI, for now, i have the inspection done for now.
What they (technicians) are saying is " in some cases if the headlights are ON when you turn on the HighBeam" then it is an intended functionality unlike in other cases where the headlights turn off when you turn on the high beam.
and hence it is the same case with fog lights as well.

can some one confirm this? if this is a correct statement / assessment ?

If I am not mistaken it is in this thread somewhere. This is a loooonnggg thread so you may have to read quite a few pages to find it.

As for cost, a 12V relay is not that expensive if you can do it yourself. I would think it would be less than $100 to have someone install it for you.

As for success, if wired properly it will definitely work.

 

I have these on my car. They are top-notch on quality and install very fast. If you are looking for the OEM fog look, it is hard to pass these up.

 

Anyone know of a place in Socal (orange county) where I can get these fog lights installed? I don't have time to personally install it =( (School).
